My son is just starting his 2nd year of Squirts (9 and 10 year olds). We had a great time last year and I am coaching his team this year. :screwy: I am more worried about dealing with the parents than the kids!
Anyone have kids in hockey or coach youth hockey? Any advice for a 1st year coach? Hockey starts next Thursday and goes until the end of March...4 times a week! (ouch) :injured:

4 times a week??!! That's overkill. I love the game of hockey but I just can't get my kids interested in it. But they play Football, Baseball, and Basketball so I can't complain that they're not playing sports.
I have heard that Hockey parents are the worst. Be prepared and just make sure everyone gets equal time out there. It's inevitable that you're going to piss someone off so just accept it and try to stay the course.

Yeah, if it was up to me it would be 2-3x per week max. But that is just hockey in New England. There is one night of "skills", 2 practices, and a game each week. During the High School season (Nov-Feb) we will not have skills so it will only be 3x per week.
I am sure even though we will go with a simple 1-2-3 line rotation, I will still get playing time complaints. Rules state equal time for everyone and Coach discretion that last 3 mins.
