I just bought a 71 firebird with a disc/drum set up. I also have a 79 trans am rear end with a disc brake set up.
I would like to upgrade to a 13" front and 12" rear combination.
Do I have to start from scratch (buy a complete Baer/Wilwood setup) or are their conversion kits out there?

You can go with Baer, or Wilwood, if you like the do it yourself route or want to save some coin try kore3 they have what you need to use late model vette brakes in kit form or you can buy specific pieces from them and source the rest from GM or your local salvage yard. Another company with kits is Touring Specialties. There is also the Camaro 1LE conversion. Go to nastyz28.com and search in the brake forum for lots of info on all.

You can got to http://www.kore3.com/ or http://www.engineeredvelocity.com for kits. The rear, you can use 98+ Camaro rear set ups...bolt on.

With the '98+ camaro set-ups you have to use two of the same side( forget which) to stagger the calipers due to the staggered shocks. This is actually what the Baer sport rear set-up is.

I went the cheap route and got 12" front, 11.5" rear for under $1000.
90-92 1LE IROC rotors up front with B-body spindles, 98-04 S10 Blazer brakes out back with functional ebrake. 79 Corvette master cylinder. You have to use 2WD backing plate for the pass side and 4WD for the driver's side to clear the staggered shocks. You'll need 80-81 outer wheel bearings for the front. Both front and back clear the stock 15" wheels as well... by maybe 3/8".

If you decide to do a aftermarket killer system, You can do a Wilwood 12.2 Four Piston, Front and Rear Total Car brake Package for $1750, 13" Six Piston/ 12.2 Four Piston Total Car brake Package $2450
All these kits come complete with everything you need to convert your brakes including braided hoses front and rear, E brake cables, prop valve, master, booster, Even Wilwood fluid and specialty tools

Here is a pick of the 12.2" F and R kit in red. Red is a $200 option. Drilled and slotted is a $180 option.

Can you mix and match those complete kits? My car is a 66 Nova but has TCI M2 suspension up front and ford 9" in the rear.
The only hitch is that it all has to fit under 15" cragar ss wheels. I do not know what size rotors will fit under the wheels, maybe 11"?Need to keep the Nastalgic look.

Yes we have many other kits which include 10.75. 11.75, 12.2, 13". and 14" fronts and rears in 4 and 6 piston calipers! We just need to be sure the spindles you are using are not some proprietary BS that does not take a stop based kit. Some companies make their spindles unique to force you to buy your brake system from them.
Giver me a call and we can figure out what kits will work for you and put a nice package together. If it is going to be a system to clear 15" wheels, it will be less then the system listed above.

Frank... are the master cylinder & booster new additions to that kit? Also, can one get the calipers in black instead of red?

Black is the standard cloro, red is a $200 option. We have added the boosters and master, but can delete them when needed.
I straighten out the wording to reflect the red option in the picture post

woody80z28 Just wondering about the rear backing plates. I am thinking of going this route on my 72. Does it have to be one 2wd and one 4wd? I guess what I am asking is which side is the problem?

Good question. What about the rears too?
Already had my B.S. figured out for my wheels so this may be super important to know!

I went with the C6 Z06 14" and 13.5" on my 74 Camaro - you don't need two left calipers like you would with LS1 style . The 4 piston rears (calip.) can be converted to 2 lefts. They look great too weigh no more than the stock 74 brakes and deals are out there for around $1000.00. Kore 3 supplied my brackets ( less grinding on the spindle because of the huge front rotors). I'm hoping to have all my plumbing finished tomorrow - a slight machining of the C5 master cylinder flange ( I'm off about 1/16 ) or I may just put a small weld on the pushrod. Here's some pics of my setup.
