Who says tires can't be sexy... 4' 4" of R-compond goodness... The new shoes for Penny.

Toyo just released these R888s for sale and the 335s are some of the first out of the factory. They are supposed to be superior to the previous RA1s (what was on Penny) in every way.

One thing I don't get though.. according to the Toyo website the R888s are a hair smaller (11 vs 10.9 and 13.3 vs 13.5") than the RA1s but this stack of tires it three inches taller than my stack of RA1s?????

These tires are also 2 lbs lighter per a tire than the RA1s.. that's a LOT.

The difference probably is these are brand new from the factory, where the other ones may have been sitting in a warehouse for some time. Stacked, without air really don't prove much, you have to really have them on the same rims, with same air pressure before reaching any real decision. Probably would not be a bad idea to do this before you dismount the old ones and then after you mount these.
BTW, put me in line for the old junk you are taking off, I am sure they are only good for cores anyway....hehe

Maybe... The RA1s are off the rims right now (rims are back at Forgeline).. these new ones seem a LOT wider.. not the 1/10 of an inch the booklet says they are.

Maybe because the other ones were mounted..

Cores? lol.. yea, all those miles I stacked on them.. ;)

Strictly warm weather tire?

No.. supposed to work ok in the wet as well.. Not that I will looking for rain storms in my car given it lack of foul weather gear.. but the tire are fine in the rain.

In fact the RA1s (in thier unshaved state) are used for rain tires by many teams.

From thier site: "The V-shaped tread design also enhances wet traction and control "

Nice rubber Steve, but drooling over such a phallic symbol might be considered odd.

Very cool Steve. You also made my day as I have been looking for some sticky street tires in 16" for maximum street braking. I see the RA1 is available in 255/50-16!

Nice, I was looking at those for the new project I've started. How deep is the tread? Keep us posted, I'm wondering if the tread pattern will be very noisy or not.
