power steering box help

Hey guys!

I'm trying to get my headers in the car and I'm hitting the power steering box. The car is a 69 Camaro and the headers are from DOUG's. The instructions say they will not fit with Saginaw 825 fast ratio boxes. How do I tell if it is a fast ratio box. I do know that it is 2.5 turns lock to lock. It's not even a matter of dimpling the header tubes(doesn't even seem close)!! Please help!!

Not sure if you have an 825 FR but I think they are shaped the same. You are most likely going to have to get it modified to fit.

Can you post a picture of what you are working with?

I just went through the same deal but I worked around it. I guess when you pay $400 for a set of headers they just MIGHT fit.

Looks like a standard type box to me. Headers aren't too bad they should fit? Its hitting around the aluminum top plate?

Are you running big block frame and engine mounts? Looks high to me.

yes. i already "massaged" 1 tube and it still won't go. i forgot to mention that it is a big block. i just stopped a guy driving by in an IROC and the box looks the same as his. any other ideas or should i dent some more tubes. i'm pretty close but nothing lines up to be bolted yet.

Before you start nailin it. Try removing the header first then install the box and reinstall the header. I find it easier to fish in a header then smear in a box......your gasket will be fine.

we tried that first and it wasn't even close. with both of them unbolted we are close, but no cigar yet. and i'm about to get yelled at for getting grease on my wife's laptop.

If your car was not a big block car from the factory or if the motor mounts or the frame stands have been swapped out, your headers will not clear the steering box. The factory big block motor mounts move the engine up and to the passenger side. The trans crossmembers are to one side also. The two types of engines will fit in either mount setup, headers just don't fit.

I changed the frame stands to the correct ones(if they sold me the correct ones) when I redid the subframe. they absolutely looked different than the small block stands I took out. The motor mounts are the solid ones for a big block from Moroso. Any other ideas?? We're still in the garage!!

P.S. - The hammer is in hand.

I've got some BBC heddman mid-lengths you can try. They fit with my PS box when I still had one.

I just want to let you know that I got it somewhat figured out. My main problem was that I put the frame stands on the wrong sides. Fixing this moved the engine over a little more than an inch. The headers still don't exactly fit. I was a little tired and I got a little carried away with the dead blow and mangled a tube a little too much but everything is in. VERY tight fit. Also, the Hedman's EFI69Cam let me check out are 99% identical to my Doug's hedders.
