I getting closer to buying a new set of brakes for my 67 Camaro. I'm just stuck I have 16" rim on the car now and new rims are not in the buget. I need to get a set of brakes for the front that will accomodate the 16" rim. I've looked at a couple options and have narrowed it down ( I think ) to either Wilwood 12.19" dynlite 4 piston kit, or the bear sport system with 12" rotors. Any feed back on either of these systems? Am I missing a system that would work the the 16's? The car now has the OEM 4 piston so I have the disc brake spindle now. It is a street car that may see an auto cross event once in a while.
Thanks Nick

The 13" C4 PBR will fit with some 16" rims. Best bet is to find someone who has them and trial fit.

Thanks Carl, I also think there is a 12" version of the c4 set up on dave pozzi's website.I just downloaded the Baer 13 track template and it is a no go. I know the serious street system will work but I like the biggest rotor I can fit. I may go with wilwood's 12.19" system.

The other option would be sticking with the system you have (not bad for back in the day) until you can upgrade the rims. That way you'll have more tire choices too.

It kills me...I bought these rims 4 years ago before I really understood what I was doing with the car. I want to upgrade to the g-bar, tko600 and I still have some body work to do. Those are all big dollar items. I may just drop the cash and sell these rims. I'm still undecided.

I feel your pain. I bought 17" fat lip rims that have a step in the hoop that essentially make them 16" rims. I'm going with an LS1 setup on the front which has a 12" rotor.

Nick- if you need to do a test fit, I have the 13" C5 setup on my car, and a 12" c4 setup that came off the car-- I'm not too far from you. -Dan

Since you're stuck with 16's, I would go this route and then you could always upgrade to C6 calipers when the LS1 F-body calipers get tired and spread on you. In the end, you'd probably be money and performance ahead of a C4 based kit IMO.

Thanks Dan! I'll take you up on that. I am getting married this weekend and will be away for the next couple weeks. I would like to see if my rims fit that setup. I downloaded the Bear template for their 13" setup its a no go. I'll send you a PM later this month after the honeymoon!

no problem, but we should work on your priorities... wedding over the car... shame... shame... I hope the car doesn't find out about this!

The wife to be LOVES the car. She works on saturdays that leaves at least one day to play with it. Believe me there have been weekends where she talked to my work boots!

We sell the heck out of those Wilwood 12.19 set ups and get rave reviews. Excellent 16" wheel brake choice. You will be surprised how resonable you can get into a Total Car Brake Package.

If I stay with the 16" rim and none of the 13" brake options fit, I'll be calling you for one of those kits.

does she have a sister?
Seriously, congrats. Give me a PM when you get back and want to test fit. -Dan

I ran the Baer 12" 'A-Sedan' kit on my CMC road race car for several years with 16" wheels. If you go the Baer route, I recommend the 1.1" thick rotor. It's a cut-down 13" rotor. These were great brakes. My only complaint is that the aluminum hub had a service life of about 12 race hours even if the bearings were serviced after each race. I had 2 of them come apart on me. But you should be fine with a street/track car.

You would think if GM can stuff a 12" rotor in a B body 15" wheel that a 13" rotor would fit in a 16!
Might check with Ed Miller that hits Nastyz28.com. He does some custom kits even using different Wilwood calipers that take bigger pads.

Skip,
The caliper design is half the equation. The sliding aluminum calipers require a large strong-back that requires more diameter. I think the Wilwoods fit because they are a fixed caliper design and don't require a strong-back. The cast iron calipers used by GM also don't need as much meet beyond the rotor diameter.

you could do something like this

however, instead of buying their adaptor bracket, you can make your own and run 12" '98+ F-body calipers and stock f-body 12" rotors. Or use the F-body abutment bracket, F-body rotors, and C5 calipers (may have to do a little grinding on the caliper ribs)
I'm now sure how similar the early forged short spindles are to the cast G-Body spindles but you might get it to work. There are some folks that just made their own bracket using steel plate stock.
You can get parts super cheap. I just bought a complete 12" F-body setup for $75 locally, which includes spindles and hubs which I'll be using on my LT1 camaro conversion.

This is great info. I think this is similar to the Dave Pozzi setup which I have thought of doing. It uses the 12inch rotor and C4 calipers I beleive this one of the brake set ups that Dan has that I'll test fit against.

Nick-- I think I even have a set of caliper to spindle brackets for the c4 12/13" conversion. Also, Probell is not too far away from me and he has 13" c4's on his car. I'm sure we could arrange for a test. -Dan

Thanks Again

I test fitted a 12" 1LE rotor and a GTO PBR caliper and they both fit fine in my 15" snowflakes. Alot of the Vette and aftermarket kits though use a rotor(probably a Vette one) with alot shallower offset shoving the caliper closer to the wheel. On the flip side there is only so much room to the rear to put a caliper and clear spindles.
If you are into making your own brackets 2004 GTO calipers go for pretty cheap as they are swapped for 05-06 to use with their bigger rotor in the GTO crowd.

Teh actual rotors use a metric bolt pattern. But the fronts for 04 are 11.6, 05/06 12.6 and 28mm and 32mm respectively. I think the pistons are around 40mm but that was converting using my "standard" dial caliper to measure.

I'm a couple days late here, but BRP makes a kit for 1st gen F-bodys to install the LS1 brakes (or at least they used to, not sure if their site is still current?). Anyhow, I'm looking hard at these for my '69 w/ 16" VWW V48's. Not 100% sure if they'll fit though.
Here's the site: http://www.brphotrods.com/Complete%20front%20dics%20brakes.html
or the bear sport system with 12" rotors.
Does Baer make a 12" kit for the 1st gens? I've only seen the "serious street" (11") and "Track" (13") systems listed for 67/69 Camaros.

I'm not sure about the V48's but I have 13" C4's on my front 16" V45's using a 1/4" spacer.

I think you right I pulled it off their website not realizing it wasn't available.
