I really like Jay. I think he is an honest to goodness down to earth guy who happens to love cars. He comes across as being someone you could simply walk up to and say hey man nice car and he would sincerely say thank you. Here's another reason I like him.

A one of seven car that he's not afraid to drive. Hell, I'd drive this thing.

Enjoy

Cool video and site. I like the series on the Flexibus. I have always wanted one of those.

x2. If there has to be a rich/famous person I admire, it's Jay, simply because of his "down to earthness". Especially when it involves automobiles..

I like him as well. He has a collection to die for and is Very knowledgeable on a wide variety of cars and not afraid to take an old car and modify it with more horsepower, better suspension & brakes so it drives and handles like a new one. His project last year was a '66 Toronado that looks completely stock but now is rear drive Corvette underneath and if I remember correctly, a twin turboed Big Block...crazy power...my hero!

Let's face it, car guys are generally the coolest. :smoke: I mean I'm not biased or anything...

He is such a goofball!! I love it! Never met him, but from all I have read, he's just a plain cool, down to earth kind of guy.

Some of my buddies met and talked to him when we were at a Shelby club convention back in the mid-1980s. He was as you would expect, just a regular, friendly car guy enjoying the event.

cheers

One of the few people I would drive or fly to meet. Especially if I got a tour of his collection.

If you want to meet Jay, head to the Rock Store in the Santa Monica mountains on a Saturday. I met him on a few occations there. Great guy. He was always in (or on) something cool.

Before he took over the Tonight Show from Carson, he used to do stand up at Harrahs Tahoe. One night I played 21 next to him. He was betting $2 per hand. We all know that he has dumped MILLION's into his car collection.

Two years ago after SEMA, the owner of our company took me an a few other guys over to Jays garage. It is a very impressive collection of cars, motorcycles, artwork, and auto memorabilia. We hung out with Bernard, the guy with the mustache, and he told us several Jay stories. They best may be when he was stopped at a light on his jet turbine motorcycle and melted the front bumper of a Lexis because they got too close.

We got a complete tour of the shop. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Jay. Our boss was too anxious to get home. The rest of us offered to stay behind and get a flight in the morning but he didn't let us.

The last time the owner of our company was out there visiting him, Jay ordered up pizzas and beer so they could all hang out and talk shop.

Hopefully we'll get to go back when we get our project car done.

I have seen Jay at Cruisers in Northridge a few times and met him once (even met Christopher Titus there too). Awesome guy, he seems to have a joke ready for everything. Also been next to him when he was driving some steam powered car down Hwy 101.

Oh, I like Titus, too. He's another funny guy who loves cars. I miss his show.

Last year at SEMA when he had the Cadilac/helicopter project there the GM guys were raving about what a nice guy he is. They also made it a point that he "pays his own way" and doesn't take advantage of his star power. His people and his equipment take that Cadddy project all over the place and at Jay's expense. Pretty nice to hear all good stories about a guy that's had so much success. There's not a whole lot of big stars you can say that about.
