I'm trying to get my rearend figured out.
First I should give you a run down blue is what I have, black is soon to come.

dse tubs,quadralink,subframe connectors
345/30/19s and 265/35/18s
Art Morrison sub
Alston FAB9 housing
Looking at LS7 with approx. 625 to 675hp and the torque should be in that range also.
4L80E 1st gear ratio is 2.48 if that helps

Moser online axle tech formula shows that 31 splines would be good with their formula giving me 5860 possible ft. lbs. of toque and their specs are:
Each axle should be able to handle all of the maximum torque your car can produce. That way it is practically impossible to break an axle because you have at least a 200% safety factor.

To achieve maximum performance you should use the smallest axle that will safely handle the torque your car produce.

When I called Moser they did not recommend that setup and said I should go with a locker and 35 splines.

I called DSE and they recommended a truetrac and 31 spline axles and said they use that setup on all their 9" rearends.

So whats your opion
This car will be 90% street 10% track

We sell quite few Moser rears. A 31 Spline Tru track is not recomended for this much power. You could do 33 spline 12 bolt if you were not doing the 9" already. You are going to be forced into a locker if you plan to use that 600HP.

Hey Frank have you ever heard of a torsen differential they fit alot of rears or so I'm told . I think the manufacturer is Gleason. I was told they use them on NASCAR type racing. Wayne

What about the Moser 60? It's cheaper than the 9 inch and 12 bolt, and stronger. It comes standard with 35 spline axles and you can get the Detroit Locker, Truetrac or Trac Lok.

I am using a Moser ford 9" in my 78 camaro that has 31 spline axles and a nascar detroit locker. I have a big block with about 550 horse and a 200 shot of nitrous. I have been running that for about 6 years now with no trouble. It's hard to tell when the locker engages or disengages I wouldn't change a thing.

I'm using a Locker and 35 spline axles in II Much. I only notice a clunk when backing up and turning out of a driveway. Otherwise, it feels the same as anything else on the street.

Lockers are mostly bullet-proof, don't wear out, and don't require special fluid. I may have to whip out my Vic Edelbrock story again soon.

It looks like a 35 spline and a locker. Should I have the axles gun drilled to save some weight or is that not worth my time? To me a $100 now is better than questioning it later.
Thanks for everybodys help

Gun drilling the axles will save some unsprung weight, but won't help much for rotating weight because the weight will be coming from the center of the axles. Unless you are very serious about saving weight it would be a waste of money. Just my opinion.

Also look into purchasing an iron "Thru bolt" case...

Gun drilling acheives nothing... as Freddy stated already... unless you are looking to rid yourself of every little ounce that you can safely remove. But, the axle material means more to strength than spline size.

You will want to look into Mark Williams and what they have to offer as well.

Moser is really, cheap, entry level kind of stuff...
