View Full Version : 64 Impala Pro Touring?

Got a call from one of my high end customers today asking me to build a 64 Imp SS in Pro Touring style. This man can afford to build pretty much whatever he wants. Are there good aftermarket components out there for this car? I don't recall seeing an x frame car done in this style.

Now that sounds like an awesome project!!!! I love the heavy Chevys done in a PT style! I'd bag and slam that sucker.:twothumbs

I guess Chicayne does kinda fit the PT mold. But I'm no Troy T.
I'm looking for ideas to pitch to the man as what can be done and what's available to do it with. Air Ride? He is talking BBC, but I'd like to go TT LS. And what can be done with the fleX frame?

Here's a frame option (http://www.progressiveautomotive.com/61CX.htm). and I think Air Ride is a given. Seems like there are more and more of these big B bodies bein' done everyday.

Thanks for the frame suggestions. At this point I'm not sure how far he will go with it. He has been coming around my shop, watching the 66 Chevelle build I am about to finish. It was done with Tylers spindles, Global west CAs, Hotchkis springs and sway bars, C5 brakes and a 502. He likes it, but I also have my 65 Elky in the corner on Schwartz's chassis and an LS2/T56. He likes that too.
What prompts my post is he wants a meeting to look at all the options out there and come up with a plan. The weird part is the car has been restored. Brand new paint and body, beautifully done chassis with newly built 327/muncie. Just not assembled. Body is on the frame but no wiring, interior etc. He has lost interest in the stock build.

Rubes, I don't think he has visited this site....Yet. But I did give him a copy How to build a Pro Touring Car. He has a great collection, but up til now it's all concourse. I built his 69 RS SS 396 4 speed Camaro last year. It is beautiful but not a driver. He has three 66 Novas, one being an L79 car with 26,000 miles. The only driver in his bunch is a 37 Ford coupe on a tube chassis but it's not comfortable enough to say take off to Pigeon Forge. I think that is where he is heading.

convince him to finish the stock rebuild and start fresh....with a 63' Impala...much better looking than the 64' IMO.....

I would!!!.. that the funny thing.. but its gotta go under Venny first.

but you got to understand that the car itself is 18 FEET long!.. LONG!

not even a Art Morrison chassis, Smokey Yunik, or McGuyver can make it handle like a sports car!

I'm building a 62 Belair with an X-frame, I'd would have done the Morrison frame if I'd known or if the floors had been bad. My car was pristine when I started but after driving it with an LS6 ,I opted to make custom susp, and add a cage to bring the handling to the level I needed.
