I'm about to press the studs out of a set of drum hubs. The studs appear to be dimpled or swedged in mechanically from the factory after they were pressed in. I assume that was to make sure they were tight in the hub. Will this dimpling in the stud destroy the bore for the stud when pressing the studs out? Any body ever noticed this prior to pressing the studs out?

All the studs I have seen before are only splined and pressed in the hole. I have never seen a peening on the wheel side of the hub? Sorry I can't help. Do you have any photos?

I have seen something like this, but they where tackwelded on the backside.

Apparently the studs come loose and start to rotate when you tightening them. So in your case they have probably tried to prevent rotating.

If you can't just press them out try to grind away the obstructing part and then press out the rest of it.

Good Luck

I have seen the hubs both ways, you can bash them out with a hammer as I always do or press your heart out - no damage.

Thanks all for your replies. I think I know how to deal with this now.
