I live about 15 minutes from the assembly plant where those will be put together. I usually see Magnums, Chargers, and 300s out for road-tests ... hope to see some Challengers soon as well!!

cheers

My cousin Lynn has been up there for the past 7 months setting up the plant to build those things. His company programs the robots and designs the assembly tracks. He says they look great but they're heavy vehicles. Close to 4 bills on the scale.

I hope its not a bomb like the PT cruiser and Prowler...I think I'd buy an 07 Boss 302 before that thing...:candle:...I hear thunder...

I think the weight will be the only downside to the car, its basically a 2 door charger srt-8.

I think of the BIG 3 the Challenger will be the best looking late model Muscle Car (over the Camaro & Mustang). the SRT version is going to be off the hook!

4K is heavy, especially compared with what most of us here work with, but the new mustangs are well over 4 according to the owners I've talked with and I don't hear anyone saying near as much about mustang wieght as the Challenger.

The 05-up Mustang GT is ~3,600 lbs. The real porkers are the 07 Shelby GT-500 version, 3,900 for the coupe, and about 4,050 for the ragtop version. Good thing they have 500 hp and 500 torque!!

Geez, how heavy are these things compared to their steel ancestors? Thought with all todays tech they'd be lighter fighters.

I haven't investigated the advertised numbers since I'm really not interested in a late model mustang. The shop where I go for chassis dyno is called Pro-Speed in Powder Springs, Ga., they specialize in all model Mustangs and mostly on drag racing mid 80's up. These are the people who told me that the new style GT hardtops were exceeding 4K on the scales when they check them before doing any work (actual not advertised). I'm not trying to argue about it, just going by what I was told by a reputable shop that specializes in these cars. They did say that the previous body style before this one was around 3600, I was asking to compare with my car which comes in around 3600 also, '73 Camaro. If the info is wrong please excuse the mis-info.
Blitz, I think by the time they hang enough equipment on the new cars to meet federal crash requirments and emissions standards, along with air bags etc., you probably have close to 1000lbs. that the older models didn't have to carry by federal law. JMO it may be something else.

Yeah but you gotta take into account all the electronics, wider rims, alot more body to these cars.. but i agree.. with the aluminum engines and plastic bodies you'd think they'd be able to get these fat asses under 3500 atleast...

I seem to remember the original Challengers being very heavy when compared to Mustangs and Camaros of the same era. They were, after all, built on a shortened Charger chassis, were they not?

First generation Challengers were 3200 to 3800 pounds depending on engine and option packages. Obviously, the most highly optioned RT/SE with a Hemi, like most 2008 versions will probably be, would be pretty at the heavy end of the scale.

I'm suprised too, that is pretty fat. Anyone know how much these things are gonna be? I want one.

With the new cars, don't forget all of the sound deadening, the electronics, and the 4,832.6 miles of wire!

Shiny Side Up!
