Mods, feel free to relocate my rag joint thread--I've got it all figured out...but now, the stupid braided hoses flaming river sent me are unlike anything I've messed with before, and for the life of me, I CANNOT GET THE HIGH PRESSURE LINE ON MY POWER STEERING SYSTEM TO STOP LEAKING :hammer:

Everytime I crank the system to either lock, it sort of oozes out, right around the little hardline section on the steering box end of the high pressure line. Could it be that I just don't have the dang thing tight enough? Could it be too tight? Is there a better way to tighten it than using a normal wrench? The hose is a new-style o-ring fitting, and I'm completely sure the o-ring is in there.

neverminnnnnnnd....I pulled everything apart, just to make sure the o-ring was there, and it was...but upon closer inspection, there was some sort of defect in it or something, looked like a little hole or a chunk of it had been knocked out. So, new o-ring, put it back together, and hey presto!

alright, I feel like I'm still doing something wrong, as the leak keeps returning, even with the new o-ring.

Can anyone tell me where exactly the o-ring is supposed to rest on the high-pressure line on a saggie 800 box?

The Saginaw fitting on the pressure side of the steering box doesn't use an O-ring. It is a metal-to-metal seal. Remove the o-ring and check the seats (line & box) for defects. If OK put it back together w/o the o-ring and tighten it down (21 ft/lb). Re-tighten it after running the car. I just went through the same thing and found that there is no place for an o-ring to seat. If you have a box out of the car it is easy to check. Look closely at the box seat. There isn't a place for an o-ring. The FSM for a '92 f-body also shows that there isn't an o-ring. Now, the return side does take an o-ring. And there is a tapered portion in the box for it. BobR. edit: why does my reply have the CR's stripped out? This is strange. . .

O-rings don't over tighten and the o-ring makes the seal
AN fittings...One sixth or one flat to tighten, anything over that, there is a problem, or there is going to be a problem.
