There is a discussion on another board about finding pics of your ride on another site. I thought I'd bring it up here to get the most feedback as I do have others pics on a page link from my website dedicated to other's cars.
I don't know how everybody else feels but here is my take....
1st, if you put it on the net there is good chance somebody is going to copy it.
2nd, if nobody is profiting from it, what harm is there.
3rd, I can't even fathom how somebody would get upset for some free publicity of their ride.
So fair warning, if you don't want anybody else to see pics of your car....don't post them on the net. (don't worry, I don't take the "work in progress" or small detail pics-just 1 finished shot).

For my part, I wouldn't care so long as the pic is attributed properly (they're not claiming that my car is their car) and they're not linking to my host (they're not using my bandwidth).
Not that this has been a concern, nobody wants to claim ownership of mine :)

I also don't have any problem with people showing pics of my car, provided that they put my name by it and not theirs! I love for people to come to my website, so any time somebody puts me up as a link I'm happy to have it.

Using an image or content without permission is bad etiquette at best and theft at worst.
Asking permission costs nothing more than an email and you might make a valuable connection and avoid hard feelings or even legal action later.
If you can't give credit for an image or content, ask yourself if it is worth the potential aggravation of having to deal with someone who might lawyer up on you.

If you ever catch someone using your bandwidth (showing a photo of your ride on their site, linked back to your own site and not saved on theirs), you could always be mean and change that file to some gay porn image instead. Muahahahha!

I figure as long as whoever is posting the pic isn't purposely misrepresenting the car, I don't see the problem. Often you randomly find pics on the web and you save them and want to share them with others. Often this is through some third party hosting the pic (some guy on some forum posts some pic he got from a friend of a friend, etc.), so you can't always attribute the photo or the car to the owner/builder. Also, lots of pics are from folks taking pics at some show or cruise. Certainly you can't expect to attribute all of those photos; in fact, it's probably more important to credit the photographer in that kind of case. And I think that it might be more consequential to credit the photographer in almost all cases in terms of copyright and all that noise.

I would never portray somebody elses work as my own....in fact the top of the page reads "other peoples cars". Seen here (http://www.jackazzmotorsports.com/otherpics.html) .
If anybody has an image there that they have a huge problem with I'll remove it, if anybody's feelings are hurt that they DON'T have an image there, it's not personal. I just grab them as I see something I like, maybe I just missed yours or maybe not..... :jump:

My cars have shown up all over the place. I think it's kinda cool and I don't even mind when it is a business using it. Well except the time a company was claiming that they made my carbon fiber interior, that was a no-no. :)
I've even found my cars on Ebay (in ads). Go figure....
Well, I think it would really depend on the situation. IF someone had on thier site, hey check out this car, i don't know whos it is, that would be fine. IF someone posted a picture of my car with good intent on a forum that is fine. IF a business was using it and didn't ask that would be no good. Also it would be no good if someone just had a picture of your car on thier site and didn't say anything about it or you, unless it was just in a list of pics like dennis's. I am a picture whore though, so my opinion may be biased due to the fact I love pictures of my car on the internet :)

There are two different questions here.
First, a photgrapher has the right to the images he has shot. No matter whats on ht image. So if I take an image of your car and sell the image I have not made anything wrong.
Secondly, if I "borrow" a picture from someone elses website and claim it is my car, or my product then it is fraud. and the photgrapher of the imagein question can also claim his rights.
There is a widespread missunderstanding that whatever are on the web can e taken. As the technique works it allows it so it is up to you to protect it. One way is to put "watermarks" on images if you don't want anybody to use them.
Here is one example of calendar images I have shot.
