What a exciting day. Lisa's Project EmptyNest Air Ride showed up today. Wow! is all we can say. It never stops blowing me away at the quality and completeness of these kits. We are using Shockwaves up front on our new Speedtech / Killer Customs subframe and the awesome Air Bar 4 link on the rear. The Ride Pro with self leveling kit will control everything.

I have never had a Air Ride system on one of our personal cars, but after riding with Bret in his cars on Power Tour, and seeing his cars run various autocross, we cannot wait to get this stuff on.

We will be doing a install feature as we go, we will post links and updates.

Also, I am doing a thread on Air Bars / G bars and mini tubs. There has been MUCH discussion lately on this subject, and I look to give definitive answers on the installation and limitations, if any.

Unboxing the Air Bar crossmember. I am not sure she knows what it is, but she is all smiles, LOL! She will know by the time this build is over!

Posing with one of the front shockwaves. She knows what this is. She sat through 2 Air Ride seminars at HotRods & Restoration show

She is a little intimidated by all the wiring and hoses, but she will figure it out. She has a good helper!

Man...she and Michael (I'm sure you're helping a little) are really movin on that thing...or time is just flyin' by me.

Just remember "DO NOT OPEN" those air ride instructions...bad things will happen if you do...LOL

Frank, I have a question I have asked many times in the past but never seem to get an answer.... How did you do the firewall on that car? I guess that seems a little general but more specific did you cut the old one out? if you did do you have pictures? I have cut mine completely out and am now wondering if i went to far. I left a ledge approximately 1" on the top and sides to weld a piece of flat plate like you but am wondering if the old firewall is under there? Thanks

Love the rendering, she looks like the gal from CSI Vegas.

Good luck.

The old firewall from the bottom of the cowl is gone including the toe boards. The new firewall meets with the front edge of the floor pans under the heel area. It is break formed into shape. We glued the upper firewall to the few inches of vertical cowl / firewall, ten stictch weld bouncing around until it is a solid weld on the top horizontal to vertical edge. This helps prevent warpage and give a nice bead area to grind smooth needing very little filler.

Once we determine how much we are setting back the engine, we will make the tunnel from the new fllor to the foirewall. Fillet weld the 90 degree union of the tunnel at the firewall on the inside of the interior, then cut off the excess firewall from the outside under the tunnel using the tunnel as a guide. Grind it a bit and perfecto.

I like to use 16 gauge for the firewall, heavy but less likely to warp.

Thanks Frank, mine will be a little more work than that unfortunately, because I am using one of art morrison max g full frames under my car. I am trying to do this as a bolt on affair (body to chassis). This has proven to be quite the task now. My firewall will also be made of stainless steel which i am hoping to tig weld into place so as not to use any filler. Thanks again your projects all look awesome and hope to see more of your work on V8TV. Chris

Wow, I see Michael has the rear sheet metal ready to go. I gotta get over there and see the progress. Nice work!

Yeah John, The kid is on fire. He and mom got the quarters and mini tubs done (I was pretty impressed, they did them in one 70 hour week!), the Roll bar is in, The rear body panel mods are to be finished today, which are pretty extensive. And the trunk floor should go in tomorrow. By Tuesday Lisa and Matt can start on the bodywork,
