Oh wow... that was bad. You guys are following each other from thread to thread now... spreading your sickness! :)

I dig the project! Did you make the brake vents yourself? Did you also make the tubes that come from the firewall down to the front of the frame? And for the third and final question... anyone know if those bars have an official name? I'd like to make something similar (or more realistically.. buy something similar) for my car.

Keep up the good work!

I dig the ole 4th gen interior in the 1st gen car trick. That one guy on here with the 69 seems to have the process down pat. I believe he's even got the back seats in there too.

Dan

CamaroAJ

i had the back seats in it but decided to take them out since the cage will be in there, they also made it looked cramed in there when the front seats were all the way back.

yes i did, there is about a half inch between the rear of the right bank head and the firewall. i don't like how low the headers are under the frame but if i go up any with the engine the transmission hits the floor. they are one tube below the frame (1 3/4 inch) so it put them 4 inches between them and the ground with the car as low as it can go. i may have to turn the springs up some to get it up just a touch.

Now, did you get the whole kit from Jegs, or just the hooker mounts? I've been wondering about that kit.. it's priced right, but that can be bad sometimes. I think people had commented on how far back the engine sits, but I really don't care as long as it fits.. and it's no $5K.

How much you charge to make me some of those fancy firewall down tubes? :attn:

they are 327 stands so yes they are tall, with the short/wide engine mounts. i tried to use the tall and narrow ones but i didn't want to cut up my stands to make them work. what i am thinking about doing is adding a 1/2" spacer between the frame and engine stands but on the other hand my engine is low and pretty far back so it will help handle better. with the old set up that used to be in it the headers hang just as low and i never had a problem hitting anything so i may just stay away from speed bumps.

no i only got the hooker headers and adapter plates from jeg's the good thing about living where i do is i am 15 mins away from there main store and 5 mins away from the east side store so i've seen there kit first hand. not worth the money if you ask me.

those bars and nothing special just 2 90* bends and then i cut them to fit with the fenders and wheel wells in. it would prolly cost more to ship then for you to just go to a shop near you and have them bent them, the only time i needed something bent they charged me $75 for 6 feet of bar and 2 bends.

i hear ya man. my cal tracs hang low and so does the lakewood bell currently in the car. im using hotchkis front springs and DSE 3 inch leafs in the rear. car rides on 225-35-18 and 275-35-18 in the rear with no problems so far.

glad to see someone who doesnt have an issue with the hooker mounts. as long as they work and im not beating the hell out of my new $650 headers, im ok with it.

keep it up!

the tightest clearence due to the mounts is the gear box, there is about an 1/8 inch so hopefully it doesn't hit under driving condtions. on my rear suspension i used DSE's 2 inch leafs because i didn't want to go too low but when i got my baer brakes for the rear the parking brake brackets hit on the passenger side so i had to put a 1 inch drop block in. so now i'm down to 3 inches like you are. i have 245/40-18 front and 335/30-18 rears.

i am pretty much a slacker when it comes to posting stuff but i had alot of people on a few other boards i'm on ask me about my car so i have gotten off my butt and started to whore my car out everywhere :bananna2:

i am giving the 1500* H-T paint a try, i used it on my truck with no problems. easier to hide everything when its all black. i've had a few people look under the back of my car looking for the exhaust and it was right in front of them and still didn't see them big-ol 3 inch pipes.
