I've spoken to Kris Horton on a couple of occassions regarding my 1966 Mustang Fastback. Kris does awesome work and I am really excited to have him create some renderings for me!! :headbang:

I have a question about product sponsorships. Kris has mentioned that it is possible to get product sponsorships if they like what you are doing, etc.

Having said that, is it worth while to look for product sponsorships? How many members have experience with this?

I look forward to any input!!
Cheers

If you build it they will come, but you have to be willing to build something people will believe in. Which costs lots of money for the labor. We do alot of sponsor stuff, but it is not on a cheap car. The manufactures want magazine exposure. I got 60 pages of press on my last project before paint and the I got hooked up pretty well and will do better on the next, My last project is pretty cool and had a bunch of labor to build. And my next project is over the top.

Connections my friend, connections.

unless your getting alot of free stuff it may not be worth the cost to take it to the places they want it, I think your better off get what you can afford

Do a search here on sponsorship. There are several threads that have covered this in depth. Bottom line is nothing is for free. Sponsors expect/demand something for their parts. Like magazine coverage, events, etc. Be sure you understand what you are bargaining for before you sign up for "free" parts. I have had very good success getting some sponsored parts, etc, but then I am the media whore, so they know they get their moneys worth if their parts go on my projects...hehe

x2.

I've thought about it, but some 18yr old kid building a full scratch-built IRS Chevelle just doesn't seem interesting enough to magazines/sponsors. Oh Well.

Hopefully I'll be purchasing my C6ZO6 rear carrier soon. :headbang:

Based on the feedback, I was starting to gather that sponsorships are more work than they are worth...especially for a small peanut like myself with no connections :drive2:

I wouldn't say that that is entirely true!

It really depends on the dialog you have with the prospective sponsor and what they expect from you! As long as you hash that out there should be no surprises!
I can say that sponsors can definitely defray the cost of parts but there's still the issue of installing or having to modify to fit your car to perform they way you want it to!

Hey John, you bring up a very valid point...communication/dialog is the key to a successful relationship.

Once I have a rendering done by Kris Horton, if I decide that I want to get sponsored, how does one go about it?

In my case, it came from various sources! Rodger has a real good relationship with Wilwood so once he showed them the build photos they got on board! Dustin is the MAN!!!
I've been talking to Jason at Budnik for a while(BTW he's a super nice guy and can sling some bad ass wheels out of that shop!) and once he saw the car in the more advanced stages of the build he also decided to commit Budniks resources to the project.
I have a few more companies that have discounted stuff to me for the build but I was clear with them in that I wasn't going to immediately post them as a sponsor but would surely mention their product when it came to media!

But your asking the wrong guy! Marty(Syborg TT) is the king at this! Marty? Any suggestions?

Well, the cost of promoting the parts as agreed is usually double or more then the parts themselves. Now if you are in the business like we are, and get the other benifits, that is one thing.

And if you except sponsorship and do not do what your promised....................Your done!

Sorry, I have been out of pocket the last 24 hours, taking in the Bonneville salt flats in all its glory.
Like Tony said, No Problem at all asking questions, it is just that this one has been gone over several times and very good info in the different threads. Plus, you could get your answers now, instead of waiting on replys.:bananna2:

Us newbies are a pain in the :wedgie: When I searched sponsorships, I didn't scroll down the page far enough to see the threads that said sponsorship. :pat:
