Hi all, does anyone know of a parts supplier company that carries the front bumber cover for a 1981 Firebird Trans-am. I have been able to find lots of 1978 and older, but no 79 to 81's. I would prefer a Canadian company, but as long as it is North American and ships to Canada, I would be happy. Thanks.

I still have not had any luck finding this part, the one on my car (I am told) has weakened and stressed from age, and is now starting to show hairline cracks in the new paint. The shop that I got it painted at said they tried a couple of times to get the bumper to bake properly and thought they had it, then it started again (I know that they did use a flex agent, so it isn't that). They are willing to repaint a new bumper for me, but have said they are unable to find a part through their suppliers. I have checked with Pontiac myself and they have discontinued the part...SOMEONE PLEASE HELP...I have ran out of ideas of places to look.
Thanks, Jason

You might try one of the aftermarket fiberglass companies such as unlimited products.
You can also try Keystone Automotive (BIG operation all over the country) or a local rubber rubber bumper remanufacturer to see if they have a remanufactured bumper cover or can remanufacture your cover. Rubber bumper covers such as yours are re-manufactured everyday. A bumper cover such as what you need should not be hard to find in nice used condition. 79-81 will work.
Try F body Warehouse in Tn. Do a web search for their contact information.

Thanks for the info, I have tried all of the suppliers you had suggested but have still had no luck, I am trying to find a new part because the shop where I have had the work done tells me that the age of the rubber bumper is what is causing the problems. My bumper has never been dammaged and has spent most of it's life stored inside, I am sure that it would be in better shape than anything I could find at a wrecker, I don't think the guys at the shop are just trying to cover for poor workmanship (they have offered to try to repaint the existing bumper again, or if I supply a new part, change the part over and spray it at no charge). I know they had used a flex agent in the primer and paint, does this sound right to you guys, or does it sound like they are doing something wrong in prepping and spraying this part? I keep reading about people pulling these off doners to redo and not having any trouble, are they just getting to the age where the origional rubber is breaking down? Is there anyone out there who could walk me through the steps on how one of these origional bumpers should be stripped, restored and repainted so that I can check to make sure they are doing it right?
Thanks,
Jason

Oh and as for a local shop that remans or fabs custom parts, I live in the middle of the Canadian Prairies...I am 90 miles from the next town large enough to have a MacDonald's, The "City" I live in has a population of 40 000, and it is the second largest in the Province. I had a hard time finding anyone who would work on anything older than a 1997, unless it was an AutoPac (provincial insurance) claim. There just isn't the support locally for stuff like that.

Hi again guys...I still haven't found a solution to my bumper problem. Does anyone know of a good site that shows a bumber of this material being prepped and restored/painted? Or if anyone has heard of an aftermarket supplier picking this part up, please let me know, I have my local Pontiac dealer looking for a left-over but no luck yet.
Thanks,
Jason
