Hey now...I actually take this stuff seriously. I'm a big advocate of Organic products and I buy them whenever I can. It's no coincidence that the rate of cancer in this country has risen at pretty much the same rate we're seeing more and more new chemicals introduced into our food and hygiene products. Word to the wise; know what you're eating.
Case in point.....
A couple of years ago I was looking for a box of cereal in the pantry and I started eyeing my kid's box of Cocoa Puffs. I thought...why the hell not? So I'm crunchin' away at the table and it's bringing back memories of my youth when I used to live on this stuff. I read the back of the box, the sides, and for some reason I start reading the ingredients. They got everything in there, Sodium Sulfite, Calcium Carbonate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (whatever that is), Trisodium Phosphate, Thiamin Mono........TRISODIUM PHOSPHATE??!!!! WHAT THE HELL??!!
So I run out to the garage and look at the spelling on my box of Trisodium Phosphate THAT I USE TO CLEAN MY GARAGE FLOOR WITH and the spelling is the same. Later that day I fired an e-mail to General Mills to confirm that they were indeed putting a CLEANING AGENT into their cereal. Their response....yes....a minute amount is used to help the cereal stay crisp when in milk.
Needless to say....my kids don't eat Cocoa Puffs anymore.
So again....know what you're putting in your body.

Ok, enough already, it's just to upsetting. Just look around and see the damage that dmho is doing to the car hobby. Reason to live in the desert where there is a natural lack of the stuff and cars are safe sitting outside.

Tony,
I think you are kidding. But in the event this one got past your usually sharp intellect....
Dihydrogen Monoxide = H+H+O = H20 = Water

Penn & Teller rule. They should run for president. I love their BS show and the 'just the facts' way it presents things.
...oh, and the gratuitous nudity.

LOL!!! Don't worry, that one didn't get by me.
The issue just struck a chord with me and I felt compelled to climb onto my 'soap box' and give a little lecture about the importance of knowing what's in the products you buy, that's all. It was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing. :)

Kinda hard being 70% of the planet is covered in it. You should try to find the MSDS on it. It's a riot!

So, they use this stuff in the soaps we use to clean ourselves? And it's in every shower we take? And it could kill me? That's it. No more showers for me. I want to live.

OK guys a little know fact that some forgot as it was stated on the news a summarrily dropped.
The FDA made law that you could use ONLY the chemical name for a product, not a common name for a natural occuring compound, etc.
Now so far the common stuff like salt and sugar and such hasnt been phased in. BUT a lot of naturally occuring compounds, entirely safe and neither leathal nor harmfull have had thier commercial and societal names removed and replaced with chemical designators/names.
Every vitamin and mineral our bodies need have chemical names rather than the common name.
If everyone didnt know what sodium chloride was some would think its dangerous.
Actually we should ban monoxide completely it leads to air pollution!
Dont worry about the stuff in your cereal as have you ever been threatened to have your mouth washed out with soap.
Most forms of "soap" are made from leftover food.
Beware of being confused because if you let the EPA ,FDA and the government tell you something is bad,,,make sure as it probably is the typical" spin".
Find out what it actually is and what effect it has on you.
Did you know that a naturally occuring compound ,which is now able to be synthesised in a lab/factory, can help with certain peoplesweight problems, it goes into you body as a compound and comes right back out the same unchanged,,, sodium saccharin. Yyup the old time sweetener has no chemical reacion in the body EXCEPT your toung receptors "read it" as sweet.
BUT if you feed a lab rat 3000 times the daily normal "dose" every day soon it will develope cancer. But then lets say a daily intake is a 1teaspoon then 3000 times that would be 63.5 cups!
Heck if you eat 60 plus cups (per day) of ANYTHING and your going to DIE of something.
Some of the propaganda really sucks till you dissect it.
read and figure things out before you jump.

Pyridoxine Hydrochloride is a form of vitamin B, since you were wondering.
Trisodium Phosphate, Thiamin Mono........TRISODIUM PHOSPHATE??!!!! WHAT THE HELL??!!

Vinegar is a cleaning agent yet it's used in a lot of foods. It's major component (besides deadly Dihydrogen Monoxide) is Acetic acid.
I once saw a kid melt the skin off of his hands becuase he didn't understand the difference between the minute amount of the acid in vinegar, and the concentrated acid in the bottle he was messing with.
Trisodium Phosphate, is similar. It's danger is in it's PH.
It also breaks down into poisonous vapors when burned. But most people don't smoke cereal so it's not an issue.

Ya know this might not be such a bad Idea!!!:fingersx:
First we get this list of the petitioners and then we grant them their protest and take it away from them since they are so willing to give it up. After about 4 days most will be dead and the rest will follow by the end of the week.:lmao:
We could clean up a lot of stupidity if we just started taking away everything people are against yet they use everyday !!
Electricity could be next on the list with as many as it kills each day indirectly, the BS could get them to sign it away without them reading it too:eek:
You just can't fix stupid:banghead:

That's good to know. But I'm gonna stick to just using it to clean my garage floor and try to refrain from putting it in my stomach.

Tony the point we have tried to make is that the same chemical(to be technical) that in super concentrated for is dangerous to anyone/anything BUT in the appropriate amounts is vital in the bodily processes we need to live.
There is one acid that is super dangerous in concentrated forms but in micrograms per pound of food its cures scurrvy and ricketts,, its vitamin C!
Tony look at it this way if you eat several ounces of anything it will make you sick or kill. Now Trisodium phosphate was made for retarding moisture absorbtion in food many moons ago, then was found that in a super concentrated form to clean.
Now why was it used over something else is because it is BIODEGRADEABLE into organic compounds.
Most people have gotten so scared about the chgemical names for things but if you actually tried to reduce everything down to chemical names you would quit eating, period.
Acetasalalisylic acid in super concetrate is super dangerous, but did you know you probably got dosed with it everytime you got a cold,,,its asprin and its the active ingredient in willow bark tea, used by indians for centuries and introduced to the white settlers.
The Germans figured out how to produce it cheaply in mass quantites.
The company that had to survive under the NAZI regime is still in buisness today did that, Bayer, they have tried to fix the damage they were forced into doing during the war, same as BMW and Volkswagen and AUDI and many others too.
The point I am making is that if it was dangerous it wouldnt be used.
Ever see an infomercial on a citric acid based cleaner, one of the components in it is vitamin C. Just dont drink it!
Like he said the danger in anything is the acidity or alkalinity of anything. The human body works best in a ph neutral state as most dieseases only live in an acidic state or alkaline state.
Ever notice why a lot of the drugs enter your dody are a form of HCL, because your stomach has a big load of that in it.
dont blame the cereal, blame marketing that had tons of the product around, found it cleaned and was a biodegradeable product,, so it got mixed stronger and tada your floor is much cleaner today.
Again its all in the mix. not nessesarily the chemical.

Tony, I wouldn't eat Cocoa Puffs with or without Pyridoxine Hydrochloride.......all those kid cereals and vile :barf:
You got love the ones with the "marshmellows" that squeek against your teeth when you chew them......packing peanuts have more good stuff in them.

My wife ran this on her students. They went to the website and before long all the students were screaming to ban Dihydrogen Monoxide!!!
It was a riot.. Then she told them it was water and most felt stupid that they were fooled. They felt better after the video.
Maybe this will help them for being "a joiner" on other enviromental issues that revolve around emotion more than science. :)
