I am also waiting on rear shocks. then I am off to have a custom rear sway bar.

new update again I am sorry for the dusty frame I am wanting to get wheels to push it outside an clean it. But anyways i got my Varishocks and i must say I am 100% satisfied and I havn' even driven it yet. The quality,The materials, the structure and the adjustablility is great when i adjust just 5 clicks you can easly feel a difference. I also have a pic of my mounts waiting for a block.

nice project, I remember my 1st car, also a '65 malibu. it'll be cool, I'm sure.
I won't go to your cardomain site anymore, though. as soon as I clicked the link, a fake 'scan your computer' virus warning came up, and my real anti-virus software issued an alert! your page is malicious!

Nice looking frame for sure Rantheman.....but where's the body???

What's your plans for it?

Keep it up buddy....

Rantheman
08-09-2007, 08:49 PM
The body sits next to the frame she will get her chance of being worked on but untill that frame is a rolling chassis I won't work on here. But I only lack a rear sway bar,Front Disc brakes and wheels and tires.

When I tried to do the motor mounts like you're doing, I had issues with the front accessories hitting the frame mounts themselves. Have you tried a test-fit of an engine yet, and if so, how did you work around the accessories? (or is the interference only with the later A-bodies or just my car?)

Rantheman
08-10-2007, 12:57 PM
no I havn't yet but I know from what I have read and heard you need to notch the frame for the a/c and need to move the alternator up but there is also other alternatives

Rantheman

well I cleaned the Frame and snaped some pictures I couldn't stand how dusty it was getting. I am still figuring out the rear sway bar.

yeah i made it to 100 post. Well the guy said it would be better to make me a rear sway bar if I took the frame down to him so I need to get my car as a rolling chassis. SO I can only afford some parts at a time I can't buy all wheels and tires at once. So even though I have a les swacb account there qote for tires were 1,433 well tirerack was 100 dollars less per tire so I am going that route and for the wheels I need to find out who is cheaper. So hopefully soon I will have rims

What you gonna run for wheels? I have a set of original (not aftermarket knockoffs) C6 corvette wheels that are basically brand spankin new. 18x8.5 & 19x10. Are you running a stock with rearend? If so, I don't know if they will work....? They have a pretty weird offset.

Just an idea!!! Were close so.....

Seeing the body off your frame is making me wanna take mine off!!! Originally my thoughts were if I took my body off it's frame and powdercoated everything I wouldn't want to drive it for fear of getting it dirty. LOL. What was I thinking....? Really it's not to late for me I don't think even though all my bodywork has already been done. HMMMM, damn you Rantheman!!!

I live in the Pacific Northwest, I doubt I will be taking it out in the pouring rain at any point but a little drizzle here and there is fine. I do intend on driving it.....LOTS!! Roadtrips to Vegas or San Diego where my bro lives. Can't wait!

To powdercoat or not to powdercoat......that is the question of the day

Rantheman

nothing wrong with powdercoating i got mine done for 350 bucks so I say do it ytou won't regret it.

65Chevelle- Do it man! Powdercoat it. Even when it does get a little dirty you'll still appreciate it when you see those jet black pieces sticking out. It's like when you look under a brand new car as it drives along and can see all the suspension in detail. Yeah.

RANTHEMAN- If you don't mind my asking, about how much are we looking at in total money invested in these pics? Trying to get an idea for my future build and I like the way you're going with your suspension. Ballpark is fine, if you even want to tell.

It sucks 'cus I was about to the point where I started "building" this thing. For the past few years it's been in a million pieces with a garage full of parts like the motor and tranny, wheels and tires, and brand new reproduction parts that are begging to be put on..... Now I'm gonna blow it all apart again and be further away!!! Agh :nopity:

O well, it's worth it right?

Blitz

Yes

Rantheman
08-18-2007, 04:19 PM
yes powdercoating is worth it but there is nothing wrong with a good coat of paint. but if you are going to build it a car do it right and do it from the frame up.

Blitz

right now you are rougly looking at a 4,000 dollar frame i do't have everything together I can tell you about 1,000 of it was rear end 350 was powdercoating 1,200 in globalwest suspension and so on

Rantheman

alright new update holding off on the wheels for a few weeks. I am going to order up my front shocks. then i am ditching my tall b-body spindles and going with the AFx Tall B-body corvette c5 hub then getting there better steering arms then baer tracker arms. then we will see about wheels and tires

Ya I have already purchased most everything for my suspension as well. My rearend is in the process of being narrowed, it's almost done actually. I went with the AirRide Technologies StrongArms setup in the front and the CoolRide in the back with their upper and lower control arms as well. I already got my AFX spindles with steering arms (very nice piece by the way). I'm pretty much at the point where the only thing I haven't gone through is the frame.... What's an extra 300-400 bucks in the long run? Nothing!!! I obviously need to change out my stock body mounts and clean/paint the underside of my body anyways.

I'm gonna do it!!!!! I'll keep you posted...

65Chevelle-Why did you go with the AirRide/CoolRide setup like that? Comfort vs. Performance? Help me understand because I haven't got a clue. LOL

So much went into my decision to go AirRide, whether or not it's the way to go for you or the next guy I can't answer...obviously. Sure I woulda liked to have gone with a Morrison MaxG under it but that just wasn't an option as far as affordability goes. Unfortunately I do have a budget like most people on this board I'm sure... I knew the stance or look I wanted to go for so I just went from there. I've heard alot of people say that AirRide is garbage and alot of people who will swear by it even when your talking about performance.. I wanted to keep in mind that I'm not out to build a racecar, and it won't be a daily driver so the AirRide would work just fine for me.....even if it doesn't handle as good as some of the other options out there. It definitely wasn't a cheap route to go by any means but it coulda been way worse, you know? That's pretty much the short version of how I made my desicion. Works for me I guess. Now I can't wait to actually drive it so I can give a better analysis of the quality, etc...
Soon!

One more thing..... How you guys going about pulling the body off the frame anyways? What's the best way to do so? Does it take a lift? Do you just jack it off the frame? What do I need to look for or concern myself with as it's coming off? Thanks!

Rantheman

wow got it out kinda tuff now i need to cut 2 inches out then weld that side back together. When it goes back together the contour of the trunk should look the same. i would have cut and welded tonight but my mig welder gun is messed up so I gotta go buy one.
