I believe these are Coys Wheels, less expensive than TT IIs..

He is right they are Coys. Price will depend on the size and finish, Mine are 18 & 20's with the grey centers ran around $1000 for the set. They may be cheaper than TT II's but they look 10 times better IMO. Paradise Road Rod and Custom are who I purchesed mine through. The owner Tim is a member here his user name is PRRC. Here is a link to PRRC website http://www.paradiseroadrc.com/

Car looks great, would love to see a side shot! Where did you get the exhaust system? I also plan on those same sidepipes exhausting from an LSx motor in the future. Any chance you would have part numbers for the headers and/or sidepipes? Thanks in advance,

Randy has a bunch of pics on his laptop. He wants to get some pics out here from the build, but he's been busy with a new baby. He lives a couple blocks over and we talked about getting the pics posted.
It's looks like one of those Maistro 1/18 scale toys....very nice. He was going to do Good Guys Des Moines, but didn't have a couple details completed.

Wheels are a bit on the large side for my taste my still a sharp looking car, do you know exactly what color code that is or if that Charcoal metallic was a custom mix? I want to take my 80' Z back to its original charcoal metallic with red scheme, but I'm open to using other shades that I may prefer a little more.

+1 to Jason also for that sharp looking Silver Z with 17"s! One of the best I've seen.

and where the heck are all the 80-81' Pro-Touring Z's? I've yet to see one with Hotchkis suspension or similar, BIGGG brakes, 18" wheels, and an uber powerful drivetrain? Perhaps I'm in the minority amongst all the early 2nd Gens... :( But just as well, I'd prefer my Camaro stand out! :)

cad
12-14-2007, 10:13 AM
Oh yeah...they are big. I saw, but cant find, a picture someone snapped at the local cruise nite of a dollar bill laying long-ways on the outer wheel lip, and it did not hang over the outer edge.
Randy will have to weigh in on the color. I'm guessing it's custom.

Wow, what type of brake rotors are on that Camaro?? I've never seen those before, obviously the holes are to save weight but sheesh those look freakish and somewhat cool... where can I find a retailer for those? I'd just like to see better photos of what they look like or how much they run $$$?

She just has a stock style spoiler. That pic from the back is confusing since the cone is visible and looks to be part of the spoiler. Here is a pic from her site.

The quarters were widened? I must see pictures that show this off better. I can't tell but then again I'm a firebird person. I think it would be interesting to see widened quarters on a TA.

You may get your chance WS6,,,,, I own the white 72RS....

I'm considering the same treatment on my 73TA build WarPath.... If I do the stretch I'd be in a position to run a 345 and keep the stance wide on the car....When people try to run to much tire and a mini-tube it can make for a narrow looking rear stance in my opinion given the quarter/s shape/clearance when lowered... I'm not saying I don't agree with mini-tubes as this car will have them (WarPath),,,, just how you place the backspacing of your rims for fitment can make for an otherwise narrow looking stance if not done just right.....

The way I like them is a personal choice based on aesthetics mind you just to be clear here...

Those are two of the best looking late Z's I have seen in a while. Love the dark blue with tinted windows. I really think I'm going to have to paint my car sooner than I wanted to now. I love dark blues on these cars.

Albert, be sure to post pictures in the projects section when you get to that point. I agree with the stance. The wide tires look great but if they could be widened outwards a little, that would look even better. I'm going to push it with my car even though I am running 9.5" out back. I've measured and believe a 3/4" adapter when I only needed a 1/2" spacer will look better and fit fine. I have stock rear springs for now so it's only lowered a little by raising the front eyelets.

Appearantly, that was the only manufacturer of 275's at that time and then they quit making them. Sucked back then, but the new wheels are 17's with 285's on the rear

It's the other way around. The TAs have more room in the rear fenders because of how the quarters are on a firebird. You may be seeing the difference between early and late or a visual trick.

Nice cars!!!
Camaros look like they have more tyre up inside the arch because the fender lips at the top of the arch are lower on a Camaro than on a Firebird....about the biggest I could squeeze up there on my 70 RS/SS was a 295 on 10" rims...and that was with the fender lips rolled flat (no tubs).

Thanks for the kind words guys! I bought this car to do a maxed pro-touring car,but the more I thought about it I couldn't bring myself to cut up a real all original sheetmetal RS/SS car,so I just lowered it and put wheels and tires on it and a tko-600. The rear wheels are 18x8 w/4.75 backspacing ( 5" bs works better w/ these tires) 275/40 Nitto NT555 tires. The fronts are 18x7 w/ 4.5 bs and 235/40 tires on the front. I've found that the Nittos run a little bigger than the Michelin PS2's. This tire and wheel is the max you can run with the car this low. Here's some more pics , I'm no photographer LOL

Drop spindles, coilovers, and narrowed control arms to keep the tires off of the fenders. Hotchkis springs in the rear with lowering blocks. This car is just a cruiser I never intended to auto-x or road course it,but it does handle pretty good considering it has such a heavy motor.

Thanks ! I would say it has a firm ride but not harsh that is one of the reasons I used dropped spindles so I didn't sacrifice suspension travel.

This is my first post here, but Im curious if its an optical allusion, or if the 3rd picture down has different tires then the rest of the pictures? I realized you mentioned the nitto's run bigger, and it appears like the other photo's show the tire's sidewalls ballooning more than the others. BTW.......This car is just fantastic looking!

Lets see.....when he got it, it was the N50/15 VERY fat/skinny Cragar SS drag look (remember its the 70s!) .....then the Champ 500s at stock ride height (15yrs).....then the stock steel 5spoke/stock ride height look....then the current config drop spindle/re arched stock rear springs/TT2s set up.....its drag raced, been a show winner, road rally, several road race track days, autocross, wedding car, two lane back road stormer and heads up stock car oval King of the Hill runner up...... but by far and away the most as a street car/cruiser. that paint is a single stage paint 16 yrs old, he's on his third carpet and been through at least a half dozen front spoilers....been through 3 engines still has the stock (completely rebuilt) M21 and 10 bolt posi with 3.73s

This is my 79 Z28. Not ProTouring yet, My project. Obviously needs a paint Job, besides that not a spot of rust. 4 point cage, 2 inch lower in the back and 1.5 up front. Going to be upgrading to a full Hotchkiss suspension in the future. Has a L88 hood scoop with a 1970 350 with around 330hp for now in it. 3:73 gears, Race Built Transmission. Going to be doing a House of Kolor Orange on it with 17" gun Metal Gray Wheels....Maybe Coy's C55 wheel Not sure though.

Nice project. Don't worry about not having it painted yet. Mines full of body issues from rust to alignment. Just enjoy whatever you do to it, mechanical or aesthetic.

Well...
I went and looked at the 2nd gen "California car, no rust" my A@@.
What a bucket. My wife said that se didn't think I would turn down a 71 Camaro... I did.
After much searching, I found a guy that needed cash baaaad.https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/06/DSCN0256-1.jpg
This is what I am starting with. Not yet Pro-Touring, but it will be. Yes it is a real SS (code Z27):headbang:

Nice. Are you going to tear it down and rebuild it "Protouring style" or leave the body and concentrate on the suspension and engine first?

Start with the suspension.... But the wheels gotta go.
I think we will drive it first, before the big teardown.

Thanks. It's a slow build due to limited cash flow, resources and ability but I'm keeping it focused on handling, streetability and OTT but controllable power......Kind of Outlaw Drag Radial meets Protouring custom thingy m'jig! Not far of your super clean Mustang but with out the clean. That'll come when I get her painted...
