I got this from an email chain. Interesting direction of tire design. I'd think they'd have to cover up the sidewall just to keep the look of current tires.

Tires

Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires.

They had a pair at the

Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

A. no more air valves...
B. no more air compressors at gas stations...
C. no more repair kits...????

D. no more flats...

SCAN DOWN & SEE.

These are actual pictures taken in the

South Carolina plant of Michelin.

I couldn't see the pictures, but Michelin wouldn't appreciate any photos from inside the factory anyway.

This is certainly innovation.

i saw a video like that a couple months back but it really didnt offer any insight like that video. It was more of a 20 second clip just showing the wheel moving. Good find.

Found images on http://officespam.chattablogs.com/archives/039562.html that look to be from the same source (Google search for "Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires").

these tires have been around awhile i believe. i think it will be awhile before you see these in production. im worried about what happens when a rock gets stuck in there? can you say "out of balance"

nah the rock shouldn't get stuck really unless it's a giant rock at which point I say heads up!!!!

Maybe not a rock, but how about now having to clean your tires out from the 8" snow storm we got last night? We all love snow turds hanging on the car, will the inside of the tire buildup with ice? Seems like it might be a novelty for quite awhile if they come out, and only for pavement, or southern driving. The military will probably buy the technology so we never see it on the road anyways.

I remember seeing a program on these too. The style shown is for demo and testing. The actual tires will have a covering side wall that will protect it from foreign material from entering it.

Those were discussed on this board and others a few years ago. Not really new.
