Not going to be ready for Sunday (with the vette) just had too much going on. Plus they are forecasting thunderstorms/rain most of the weekend.

If I feel the new engine in the TA is able, i'll try. that would be a good break-in trip. 150 mile round trip or roughly a tank of gas.

What's Bear Mountain and where?

It's a mountain/ park/ bridge/ zoo and on Wednesday's in the summer, a car cruise:twothumbs .
It's in NE Rockland county in NY right near the Bear Mountain Bridge.

I am also guessing that bears have been seen there.

I'll correct myself now. It's in the SE corner of Orange county. Here's a little more info

1200ft elevation.... that's not a mountain! I was hoping for a back country cruise or NE version of the 'run through the hills'... hmmm, maybe something we should do anyway!

Actually, if you come from Peekskill, the road up to the bridge is lovingly refered to as the "goat trail". You are travelling from sea level, up to the elevation of the bridge (not sure of the elevation, but it is pretty high) on a road carved into the side of the opposite "mountain". Seven Lakes Drive on the Bear Mtn side has some nice twistys along it as well.

Ah, I just did a map search... that is a hilly little area- I've gone through the twisties just north of West point before... very pretty area. I'll see how the weather is and if I can slip off work early. It's a good 1.5+ hour drive for me. With this rainy weekend, I could use a good run. How many PT guys are in?

I was hoping to be able to get off, but I've got work Wednesday day, and I'd have to leave here around 2PM to make it there for 5:30. So, unfortunately, I am out.

Have fun guys! Take lots of pics.

Dirk,

I can meet you on 9. I live so close it would not make sense to go backwards for me especially since I'll be coming home from City to get car.

Pending any emergencies at work, I'm going to try to make it. What's the best way in from NW Conn.? 84-684, then over the bridge by Bear Mtn? (I've never done that bridge before, let alone at 4-5pm going west.) Or am I better off coming down from Newburg? It's 20 miles longer. thanks- Dan

You guys suck. I'm stuck in sweaty Tampa, FL on business. Dirk is right about meeting up somewhere and then cruising to it. If you plan to just meet there, you won't get the cruise element in, and you won't be able to park near each other amidst 850+ cars and several hundred bikes. You might not even find each other without cell phones. Sitting in a lawn chair behind your car is only tolerable if you're in good company.

Dan

I think the over the bridge is better, but I do not know what 684/84 is like on a weekday commute.

84 west to either 9 south(exit 13) or 9D south (exit11). 9D will put you right at the Bear Mountain Bridge. 9 will put you at Annesville Circle and up the goat trail. There are other back road shortcuts too. If you want, I could pm you my cell#. I'm coming from up north too.

Dirk, will you have Cal's stopwatch taped to your dashboard?? Or maybe a lock of Harry Hamlin's hair? Just don't turn out like the guy in the Mustang who challenges Hopper and loses!JK

One more question............"Does this thing have nitro?????"

Sorry can't make Bear Mountain this week......maybe next time.

Scott I have a huge 1/12 vette model that would be perfect for a replica of this car. A little airbrush primer and it would be sweet.

I read on the internet that dennis hopper was extremely drunk for the shooting of the movie, including the scenes where he did his own driving...

I would love to go, but getting out of work to get up there for 5.30'ish is tough...plus I really want to get my car finsihsed off..as per usual my winter projects are still going in the summer!

Did you do the dash/rear spoiler over the winter Dirk?? R you going to the Kiwani's show in mamaroneck again this year?? It will be good to have a bunch of us together.

Stop by sometime if your in the neighbourhood.

Had a good time, did not take any photos.

Hey Nick,I got sidetracked with a motor/tranny/interier/swap/engine bay detail.

The dash is still half done and I am running a stock rear spoiler until steevo gets his second batch. I will stop by soon, and yes the mamaroneck show is a sentimental favorite since I went there with my mom as a kid.

As a footnote,I followed some guys on sportbikes across bear mountain, the lights crisscrossing the windy road did remind me of the movie "king of the mountain"

What a nice show/ cruise. suprised to see as many 2nd gen t/a's and formulas that were there. Definately a good trip to break-in a new engine. engine had 50 mi on it before the 150mi round trip. 3.23 gears on the highway and engine at 3k ist what I call highway gears. anyhow, no problems with the car other that it ran a tad warm due to the amient air temp. I did happen to meet up with a 2000-02 SS on the way home. Of course the inevitable happened, I had him until I ran out of gear. I was taching 5k which equates to around 120mph. I managed 12mpg which was better than the 10 I had expected.

Brad - good seeing you again. you had by far the best looking t/a there. your, your brother's and the camaro in between looked nasy just sitting there.

ALLFAITH
