With their realitively low (by Corvette standards) buy in - high availabity - lack of chrome - hugh aftermarket parts choises - almost cult following I'm surprised these cars aren't popping up as pro-tourers. Is anybody seeing these cars being built? They seem like they would be good candidates for that "street fighter" or "industrial look". Any thoughts on this?

I've had these thoughts as I wonder what I will build next at the shop. Corvettes is what I do so I know them pretty damn well. I would love to build up an 80-82 car with the longer/lower front end. It just looks so good to me. I think the biggest issues you run into is that for whatever reason those people with less funds who would benefit the most from getting their hands on a great platform for cheap simply don't choose them. The other issue is those people who can afford to build up a C3 choose to build the steel bumper sharks for their value. It makes it a little easier to justify 50k into one of those than a later C3. The later C3s have way better interiors and are much more comfortable though. I love the seats. The dash blows but that just leave room for imagination. I have so many ideas on what to do with one of the later cars that I am going to have to build one eventually just so I can see my vision take form

how 'bout mine?

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/10/28vst92-1.jpg

It doesn't have nowhere near the level of modification that my 82 has but I still feel it's a pro touring type car, it's got a rear coil over suspension, slammed front, will probably get some bigger rotors and large calieprs alter this year. I still have a complete set of spare Integra 4 pistons because I went with 6 pistons on the 82, there are many custom things on this car but i'm not done with it yet. Í still have to finish the headlamp setup made from alu buckets like the L88 Le Mans lights but I'm most likely going to build them with some xenon lights that are also electrically height adjsutable. Too much stuff going on though like finishing building up a 428 cobra jet, finishing a 69 corvette w/ ramjet 502 and 5 speed TKO600, a 428 Cyclone CJ and a 70 Coronet R/T that needs a full redo. I'm swamped and have too much crap going on at the same time LOL

That's because there were no black corvettes built from like 1970 to 1978. Who made that bone head move is beyond me. Sharks look killer in black.

That one you pictured steel looks so similar to one I built for a customer. The pics I have are before the front was lowered, which it desperately needed. Looking back now, I wish I was able to do some things differently. Can't always do what you want when you're spending other people's money though.

Here's the link. http://speedhound.com/project/76corv.html I really wish I had gotten pictures of it lowered. It was lowered weeks after it left. Customer finally decided it needed to come down.

Can you include 73's? Of course! The only reason I started with '74 is because the buy in from '74 up is usually cheaper. Thanks guys - any more? Twin_Turbo lots of work done to yours. Very nice and would not mind seeing pictures of the '69 502/5 speed as well. Steelhorses the black car with the Foose wheels is hot also

Umm... according to this site - http://rogerscorvette.com/specs/77.htm - there were just over 6,000 corvettes that were painted black in '77...

But you are right! I looked at a few of those pictures of the vette you built and that front end did need to come down quite a bit!

ah ok I got my year wrong. I knew it was through the 70's and thought 78 with the 25th anniversary cars was the first of the return to black paint. Still, what numb nuts thought to not allow any black C3 vettes through the best years? I do have to admit that some of the other retro colors looked great. fathom green, golden rod yellow, and the burnt orange they had all looked good.

Once that 76 I built was brought back to me, I dropped the front 3 inches and back 1.5 inches.

Here's some of the latest of the 77, it's getting there. My 82 is still in tatters, haven't worked on it in months :(

Need to swap out the springs, they're old ones I had lying around going for some new 500# hypercoils. I had it set up with some pro shocks and hypercoil springs but couldn't get the rear low enough and retain adequate shock travel so I bought these shorter aldan shocks.

This was with the pro shocks, measure once and measure incorrectly LOL, brand new shocks & springs , completely useless :)

Also got a nice injection system, needs some TLC and work to get running and a lot of parts but I feel it has potential and I'm a sucker for individual runners. My 82 has 3 dellorto carbs and I have a crower small block and big block injector as display items.

I love the black braided lines. I may have to copy you. Do you have any more pics?

I built it myself. You can now buy soemthing similar from Van Steel, I helped them a bit w/ the design.

The braided lines is russel proclassic hose. The fittings are summit and jegs brand. They're cheap but since this is not a race car like my82 there was no use inspending boat loads of money on aeroquip, xrp and the like. These will do just fine.

Love your car, someday I'll have to get a chome bumper coupe myself. They are very expensive here so I'd have to import one from the states again.

bingham. Earl's makes their anotuff line that uses black fittings and braided hoses. I'm using them on C4orce. Much easy to deal with than SS braided and the bend radius is very good. Highly recommend them as an alternative to ss braided.

This is my best friends '77. We lowered it about 2" in the rear and 3" up front. It sits on 19" Budnik Hammers. Power is a Fast Burn 385 routed through a mildly worked TH350 and 3.73's.

widelo&fast, that looks great! Love the wheels. Budnik hammers eh :) hmmm...

I think I went a little overboard with the low and slammed on mine, it's 2 inches from scraping. OOPS :) (and it needs some wider rear tires, much wider.....maybe even 12" wide wheels instead of the 11s that are on there now)
