If you recall when DSE first showed their prototype subframe at the GoodGuys's show in Columbus in 2006. Well, that subframe was smoothed in bondo. I was showing the photos to my bodyman (Jack), and he said that he rather do it in lead. Anyway, one of the moderators (Ralph) thought I should post this in the paint & body section. Anyway, here is some photos of my DSE subframe that was smoothed with lead. Also, there is more photos of the subframe smoothed in lead on my site.

Looks great!! I thought it would have already been smooth for the money they cost.

They are. The frame rails are Hydro Formed out of a single tube, and I'm sure the crossmembers are too. The only seams are where the crossmembers and suspension parts are welded on.

It would be more interesting to see it covered in rubber and track grime...

I guess its pretty...

That is not true! The hydro formed rails was actually formed from 2 pieces of metal then welded back together. You can feel the seam down each side, and it is not entirely smooth. DSE engineered this subframe to be very stiff.

Andrew, thanks for the comment! The only purpose of doing it in lead was to drive it. I wish that I made some photos of my bodyman hitting the lead with a body hammer. The distance was about 2 feet away, now try that with bondo. The lead won't crack at all. Although, it was a very difficult task to lead the subframe as compared to bondo.

I also have posted some new photos on my site with the pictures of the subframe out in the sunlight. Sorry, I am out of disk space to post here.

The color is Marina Blue, but the brand of paint is RM Diamont. RM Diamont calls it Blue Mist.
