disk cooling, is this ok?

i had this idea since air under the car is bad but there isn't much i can do about keeping all the air flow out of there i am taking advantage of it to run my brake cooler ducts. is there going to be any problems with this set-up? the car will be mostly street driven but it will see its fair share of autocross and some Mid-Ohio action.

*don't give me any greef on the cyinder block jack stands my jack stands are in use under another car and this was just a few day thing. i've never had a problem with it but i have had a jack stand collapse and send my car to the ground*

While it looks like it would be better than nothing, I don't know how much airflow that will get. Also it looks like it would get heated air off the muffler. If there is enough airflow there it'll be O.K.

mock up stages right now as i also thought about the heat. i'm looking into putting a heat shield between the two.

the backing plate? i made it from 16g sheet metal and a piece of 3 inch exhaust pipe.

i will look here in a little bit to see how it looks but i was trying to keep it kinda hidden and a clean body look. i think there was alos a pinch point where the duct hose runs. i'll post up some pics.

One other thing to concider is when the ground is wet (or raining). You don't want to dump a ton of water directly onto a hot rotor. Maybe a low spot in the hose with a small hole it would work as a drain. I love the out of the box thinking though.

I remember a camaro we built back in the 80's where we modified the rocker panel end to hook up ducting tube. The air flow comes from the firewall cowl.

High pressure air goes into the cowl, through the rockers to keep them clean. If you don't park under trees it should work fine.

Another idea is the side vent. Like a Z06. Make it look like an exhaust port.

thought about the side vents like the Z06 but i didn't want to cut up alot trying to keep a semi stock look on the out side. i do like your idea from the fire wall cowl though.

i did look, there is a pinch point if i run it over the leaf spring to the other side and i would have to make the vent 2 inches smaller and its only 4 inches as it is. the duct is a good 3-4 inches lower then the outlet part and i could always throw some of those magnets over the vents that they use to make door signs with.

i'll keep playing with it and see if i can get the side vents in with out alot of hacking up. if not then i guess i'll just leave them how they are now.

well after some thinking i think i will leave it where its at, but i am thinking about adding blowers inline. they are $20 each and would add more air flow when needed via switch on the dash. since its going to be mostly street driven i think it will be ok for some track days with the blowers.

That'll work fine. A similar setup is used on the old RSR Porsches.

Might work a bit better outside of the leaf spring, but if you aren't getting overheating with them in that location there is no reason to move them.

i'd leave it too. that's a whole lot better than nothing and it sounds like you're only occasionally at the track anyway. surely the front brakes are where you'll need to spend most time..and it's a lot easier to get air to them anyway...
