Give me a history lession. I am wondering when route 66 was closed, or taken over by the interstates. I know that the interstates where being built in the late 60s early 70s. I rmember when I-75 wasn't complete.

Tim,
Route 66 is till very much open in most places.Having drove across country this summer it was a real thrill to actually drive thru several towns in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico that main street is Route 66. I think when I-40 went though that was the end of it as a main route west (early 70's) but you should make the trip sometime and enjoy alittle nostalgia. The town that really sticks out to me is Williams,Az. They have alot of history being the town that has route 66 and the train depot that goes to the grand canyon. I think there is a cruise yearly that starts in Ca and follows route 66 thru Ill? of somewhere in that area.
