No they are nowhere near the same. 4th gen stuff doesn't even look about the same. Go look at one and you will see.

Second gen front suspension uses two control arms holding the spindel w/ ball joints. Fourth gen uses a McPhearson strut assembly which the spindel mounts to.... completely different.

Third gen runs a strut. 4th gens run a short upper arm and a REALLY tall spindle. No, they won't work on a second gen. What are you trying to do, anyway? Just wondering since you don't really need to modify that part of a second gen anyway. If you do, it's mainly for brakes, in which case it's not hard to do.

after I posted the question i had te opportunity to look at one which I should have done prior. My main 2 reasons are an aluminum spindle to cut donw on wieght. I thought the astros/ safaris wl AL, but all that I have seem are iron. the other reason is the ease of adaption of vette brakes which I have. yes it can be done with a bracket and cutting the spindles, but I was just looking to see one was manufacture that would have the modifications so called 'done' to it. thats all. thanks for the info fellows

You would be better off using a Corvette spindle for adapting. Since it has been done, the engineering is possible.

It has been done - a local guy built a 73 r/s into a car called it the:73-93 . all 93 drivetrain- lt1 6 speed actually it was a callaway stroked Lt1 and 93 front suspension and the 93 rear with coil overs (i have no clue why they took out a 8.5 and put the wimpy 7.5 in it) i actually rode in it once - what a beast . it was on power tour a couple years and in some magazines - nicely done car https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I`ve already looked at the swap. The 4th Gen spindles (which BTW are iron) are about 17.5" tall!!!! Aside from using a cartridge bearings assy and ball joints rather than king pins they look almost exactly Studebaker spindles. You`d have to add bars from the firewall to the ends of the subframe and mount the stubby little T-Rex like upper arms to them or make big Fordlike shock towers like the guy in the pics. At the end of the day, IF you do everything just right you`ll have about the same geometry as a stock 2nd gen with tall upper ball joints and roughly the same as stock bumpsteer. Not worth it. We`ve finished testing with the ATS spindles. It`s not offered as a kit (yet!) because it still needs a set of steering arms made. The good news is that in the mean time you can get very good results with a stock set of A body (Chevelle) steering arms, you just have to swap the outter tie rod ends for the proper taper. We actually have a few clients running this combo already. It still works with our Stage 1 package too for enhanced geometry. Mark SC&C
