1.25 to 1.5 x 0.060-0.095" round mild, DOM or chromo steel will suffice.

I have a design question. Looking at my '76 Malibu, the tranny crossmember actually doesn't run directly under the tranny mount, but has a small arm that comes out and bolts to the tranny mount. Is there a reason for this? It seems to me that this creates a stress point where the little plate meets the actual crossmember, and it would be far stronger to have the crossmember run directly underneath the tranny mount.

I hope that made sense.

i would run it directly under it, but im not familiar with a 76 malibu so hopefully someone can chime in and give a better answer.
