65 falcon project

Thought I would post up some pics of my current project, I will post updates as I go along. Kind of in the middle of finishing the framework/back half now. wheels in the pics are 325's but being used only for fitment and measuring. It will be running 17x11 american racing 427's (grey center/reversed offset) with 315's.

I have been wathcing your progress too! Sedans rock!! oh BTW turbochard V8 anythings are cool as hell, not many people can get them setup right, the ones that do are just sick. Your not using a stock block are you?

Thanks ... my build came to a stand still cause my home was in need of major upgrades aand its 116 degrees out :crying: but hopefully get back on track when the heat lets up. Nope would def. run a aftermarket block even thou Im just lookin for 475-525 hp.

I bought the same setup for my 4v. I really like the new MSD setup for the mod motors it's just tooo simple!

Well guys, im digging up this ol thread because its finally getting some attention. basically its been on hold for the last 3 years or so sitting in storage. With the economy, a divorce, and custody battle this project got put on hold. I am sure some of you can understand and have been there too. Good part is the ex got nothing car related, I managed to keep all my parts on the shelf and not sell them off to get by, although it crossed my mind as I was counting change to get to work.....lol

anyhow fast forward three years and all is well and the falcon is getting some well deserved attention. I will kind of keep updating as I go. I am sure like me most of you just want pictures...lol one good thing about a 3yr break is that I decided to change almost everything in the rearend and scratch the air ride, scrapped the 8.8 in favor or a 9", decided on a watts for locating , and switched all the arms to 1-1/4 and scrapped the cheap metal to metal heims for johnny joints. I just finished narrowing the rearend, making some misc brackets, and brushing up on my tig welding. Its been a number of years since I have done any. Im normally burning rod on the steam lines at work everyday so getting back to the tig welding took a few trys....lol All the stuff in the pics below is just tacked on the rearend and chassis, feel free to speak up if you see something I may be overlooking or have wrong.

held in place on the frame rails/crossmember. It also helps to reinforce the crossmember to frame rail joint.

Well not alot new, but did get my ends from currie and just had to try one. The arms are 1-1/4" .156 dom, direct threaded 1"-14 . Went pretty well just took a little time...lol

Thanks Jay! BTW I dug out all the stuff for the motor tonight to make sure I had everything to put the C heads on it and get it fired up. Looks like we are in good shape, found everything after 3 years and a move, its a miracle! We can do the fairlane next fall you need it for the summer.

Thanks for the compliments guys, here is a little sunday progress update.

once I got the new brackets welded on for the front lower arm chassis mount, the 3rd link brackey on the top of the rear end wouldnt work very well, I had some clearance issues with the planned swaybar. I had thought about switching it out anyhow because I wasnt really happy with it. Anyhow go the new housing bracket installed, and the chassis side installed. All the links have enough adjustment to be able to dial it in. with the current setup i should be able to get from 30-125% AS, as well as allow clearance for all the other crap i am trying to install back there...LOL

After a 3 or 4 year stand still I am LOVING working on this project again, and I owe a thanks to all you PT members for all the great ideas and advise along the way. The best section has to be the project threads and watching all of you build something great. Its what got me going again

Lowfast, i will put some up this evening, Dont think I have a full side shot yet, but i do have probably a rear half.

Bryce, 90% because of packaging problems with the swaybar and the rear seat intrusion with it setup up high on top of the housing, and 10% becasue I had read offsetting it could help cancel driveshaft torque (not really concerned with that though) My Factory Five cobra had the same setup and it worked well after it was beefed up enough to take the loads. I made sure its plenty sturdy.....LOL

Got the other subframe connector in finally. 4 years ago when I got stopped on this project I had only gotten the passenger side finished, now 4 years later the driverside is installed....lol just being lazy! I have been putting it off because Its a pain to clean up the old metal and crawl around in/under the car. Took longer to get the car on stand and make sure the body and reac clip were all level and square than it did to make the 2x3 connector. I narrowed it from 2x3 down to 2x2 where it slides in the front factory rails so I can have a flat floor in the front. the outter side of the rails is the factory floor, or whats left, and in between them will be new floor and a raised tunnel.

Thanks jay. Saturday would be cool. I'm picking up Rauls big MIG machine tonight to finish weld the subframe connectors and to touch up some other spots the 110v wire feed screwed up on.

Ok seemingly small update with a couple pics, but a HUGE milestone for me. Tonight is the first time the car has hit the ground on its own 4 wheels and tires, holding its own wieght, in 5 years!!!! Got it seems nice to see it roll with out dollies and jacks and stands. Rear is pretty much at ride height and front is coming down a little more. I was pretty stoked and thought I would share.

car is incredible for a simple and budget minded drivetrain, its actually a 5.3 (just liked the smaller size of the 6l cover) stock with the exception of MTI C2 cam, matching springs, and longtubes. 4l60E, 9" 3.50 gear. Mustang II front.

gets a little over 20 mpg, drives great, Ran mid 12's on street tires all day long back to back hot lapping at the local Fast Fords event at sac raceway, drew alot of attention, not all good lol

Only project progress is that I got the coilover mounts done for the most part. Its just tacked for now up top because I am ordering the new coilovers hopefully next week. These were just for mock up.

I have a 65 and wanting to do the same exact thing with the frame rails. How much did you narrow the rear end by. I think I measured the factory rearend at 52" housing to housing ends.
