has anyone seen an open air IAT/MAF that gets inserted between manifold & 4150 style TB? if nobody makes one, they should.... i don't think they would be too tough to sell.

anyone that has worked with LS2 style sensor.... could that be modified to be sandwiched in there?

otherwise, if i just go with an elbow off the 4150 base and use a 90mm TB with a runner, could the LS2 IAT/MAF be simply inserted in the 4" runner tube?

thx,
Scott.

I don't think they'd sell well at all. First, I think the maf has to be before the throttle body to read all air into the engine. Even if it could be sandwiched under the tb it would give hood clearance issues to many cars. Plus most forced induction builds like to ditch the maf altogether.

The easiest way to go is to put it in the round inlet tubing between the air filter and throttle body, just like the factory does.

One of the EFI kits touting no tuning has one that sits on top of a 4150 style TB. Time will tell whether it sells well or not.

what company is that? i think i recall reading something like that. the whole reason they were able to do 'no tuning' was because it was MAF, but dang, i can't remember the company, do you? i've got some extra hood clearance.

were you thinking of mass flo?

Scott,

I think there are now two and MassFlo is one and I believe Boss EFI is another. There was an article in one of the Pontiac mags recently that didn't reflect well on the MassFlo system IMO. They lost about 50HP over the carb and couldn't get the thing dialed in even after consulting with the company over the phone. The article was rather inconclusive in the end.

As others have pointed out, even if you have a good functioning MAF system, it still would not be able to determine optimal AF ratios or transient enrichment settings for start-up, acceleration, A/C engagement etc...

Somewhere I saw a kit that it would mount on the throttle body between the filter & body itself. I think it was a billet TB for an LT1/4 style engine & the MAF was a factory style unit with the ends removed & only the sensors itself used. I think it is a great idea, simplifies intake routing.

I looked for it but didn't have any luck
