hey all been awile since i posted anything been way too busy, so here is my dilema, as it sit right now i have 3 different project vehicles that arent getting worked on either due to lack of time or money.or both...so im trying to clean out the stable and get it down to 1..well 2 ..ill explain..here they are, '78 Bonneville 2dr,'79
Monte Carlo, and a '69 ragtop Impala..the Impala im keeping no matter what its an nums matching 427 convert..so even if it sits in my garage for the next 5 yrs before i touch it i dont care. the prob is the other 2..ive been collecting parts for the Bonny for almost 5 yrs now..ive owned it for 10 yr plus or minus and its like family..but it is in need of major work..floorboards,fuel and brakes system needs replacing, no motor /tranny at the moment, and a bunch of other little stuff..the Monte is the same way..needing the same exact things..and also a part of the family..i can remember the day dad bought it back in '91..so he just gave it to me last weekend cause hes got a couple of project of his own and this fell by the side..so im torn..i want to keep both but its just not finacially feasable...the only advantages i can see to keeping the Monte is weight< prolly about 500-700lbs less than the Bonny> and wheel choice..the Bonny has a 5x5 bolt pattern..which is a PITA to try and find wheels for..if this happened 2-3 yrs ago it would be a no brainer..because there were no suspension parts avail for the Bonny..or at least i didnt think there were..ive since learned anyting for 94-96 impala's fit the Bonny so idk...i realize no one can make this decision for me i just figured i throw it out there see what suggestions i get anybody have to deal with a situation like this and what did you do..it really sucks

I used a lot of parts cataloged for Impala when I did the suspension on my DeVille (http://web.pdx.edu/%7Ebtc/83/), including trick ball joints, poly bushing set, sway bar, shocks, Eibach drop springs, and control arms next (I just boxed mine (http://web.pdx.edu/%7Ebtc/83/images/rca00.jpg) for now). She handles pretty flat for a 2 ton car, but doesn't ride like a Caddy anymore.

Are you sure about the bolt pattern? I have a 1979 Bonneville (http://web.pdx.edu/%7Ebtc/79/) and it uses the Chevy bolt pattern (found this out the hard way when I tried to swap some rims around from a Cad). If you're that worried about it, just use rotor/hub assemblies from a Caprice/Impala to change the front, and either swap axles or whole rear end with a Chevy. I'm thinking about changing my Caddy over because you're right; trick 5x5 rims aren't as available (I'm using older Buick rims (http://web.pdx.edu/%7Ebtc/83/show/s6.jpg) right now).

The Bonny gets my vote!

I had to give up a "barn find" 67 GTO- with 60k miles, and stock everything- even shocks, with new tank, fluids and carb rebuild, ran great- if scary on that suspension. Rust free too, but as a military guy, moving TWO 67 Pontiacs every two years was too much (and funds....). So you are not alone. I'd stick with the Pontiac- but I may be biased, alot.
Good luck!!

p.s. Letting that one go still makes me mad/sad, but we sold it to a friend who drives it weekly, and tells mer how great it is. ERRRR!!

Hi Bony.

Check with GMpartdirect.com

Last time I was there they were trying to sell me a set of 17x9 Imp SS rims 5x5" for naught (well for quality 17s that is), maybe they still have em.

I would have kept the Bonneville.Just a better car in my opinion.Looks better inside, and the rear axle is stronger. Its a heavier car for sure, but remove the inner structure from the bumpers and ditch the original seat, and you have got rid of 300 pounds.

Looking at thewheels on the Bonne...It seems to have Chevy Rallies on the front...which would denote the smaller bolt pattern.
