The starter has 4 posts on it, 2 big & 2 small. The big ones are the + & - from the battery. One of the smaller ones is the trigger to actuate the solenoid switch, what is the other small one for?
Thx

You should only need one big and one small. The starter grounds to the block and the one small is the silenoid (ie ignition). Let me rummage through my LT1 book and verify

Yep, terminal B goes to the battery and terminal S is for the ignition. The solenoid should have a wire or a brass terminal that connects it to the starter motor itself right there on the end with the other terminals.

Well mine is different. There is a neg wire to the batt, a pos wire to the bat & both small ones have wires to them too.

I just got it back on the car. Not sure if I can get up in there to take a pic. I'll try tonight when I get a chance

Yeah, that's an odd sounding starter. It came out of an Fbody correct? What or who's harness are you using?

It is a 95 Firebitd / Trans Am motor & trans. Wiring harness is the factory harness that has been modified by John Spears @ Speartech.

I'll try to get some pics today to prove that I am not nuts.

OK is one of the bigger ones got a wire going inside the starter housing ? If so then the other one gets battery power, the 2 small ones are most likely on for the solenoid pulling (crank wire) and the other one is probably so it can be used on older cars with points nad is the 12 volt feed to the points ign.
This is simply the factory small body starter right? Does it have a part number on it or a sticker from AC Delco?

Interesting. I'd definitely would like to see a pic if you can get one.

See I am not nuckin' futs. The wire that I thought was ground because it was black actually goes to the + on the battery. Then the other large post has a wire that goes to the motor itself. One of the small posts is the "trigger" & the other small post has nothing connected.

What is the blank one?

motor as in starter motor? Yes, there is typically a wire or tab that is external and it goes into the starter motor itself. If this is what you were referring to all along my bad. I thought you meant the harness itself had two fat wires in it. That was something I had never heard of. Looks right to me know. Did it work?

Yep motor as in starter motor. When I bolted it back on I didn't look close to the wires and/or where they connected. I saw red wires & black wires. Assumed a + & - wire from the battery went to it because the positive wire was black.
