Just got my new Granada brakes in ( I know they aren't 14" 6 piston set-ups but it's a grand improvment) and the calipers are REALLY plain. I had already planned to paint the calipers but I was curious what it would take to paint them body color? I still have some of the paint left over from when I painted my car (PPG DBU base coat). Is there anyway I can use this as caliper paint? If so, I would plan to reduce it some how and brush it on. Can anyone give me guidance? I just think that body color calipers would look better than bright red or an off shade of blue.

I'm thinking it should work fine...unless your roadracing the car alot. When I did my GTO (stock calipers, where you can see the brake pad thru the horse shoe cutout), I actually painted the back of the brake pad body color, and the caliper in cast iron grey. Its been about 4 years now and the paint on brake pad is still fine. I had Imron though, so I dont know if that is what makes it a bit more robust.

I think regular car paint will stand up fine. I used it on my calipers and even on the center hat and outer edge of the rotor with no problems. Unless your road racing and such, the paint seems to stand up to the heat seen on the street.

This pic was when I first did it, but after 2 summers it still looks the same....

I sprayed mine and cleared, haven't driven it yet but, like eveyone else has said it should be fine. I would spray it though and keep the layers as thin as possible to make sure it doesn't crack. As far as heat bc stands up fine even when a car is parked in an asphalt parking lot on a 100 degree day and that hood with an engine at 220 degrees does fine and temp on the hood is unreal! Go for it and enjoy being different than the ricers with their brushed on Autozone paint!!!!!!

Should be fine, just don't ever drive it hard.

Rotor temps go up 3x-4x street temps during prolonged use (ie "spirited driving on a long country or Mountain road or road racing).

Cool, all we have around here is highway and some coastal roads. Not much for spirited driving, plus it's my cruiser. I'll give it a try and show my results.

Because NOTHING but the dist cap and coil are red on the car. I think red wouldnt look good and the blue they have is WAY off. I want some flash and dont think the silver wouls stand out.
