I have been thinking about how to fit a proper wheel (17 ) to my 77 Monza. I ran a 15x8.5 with 3 in back space to rim side or 3 1/2 to the lip .
so I measured m S10 rear and got a figur of 48 in to the back side of the backingplate/wheel cylinder mount flange and its a 2wd ( as it turns out 2 and 4 wd are same width for springs the extra for the 4wd is outside the spring.) So the 4wd is 53 in.
so i am looking at around a 5 1/2 in back space or maybe even 6 in back space.
At least this is a popular BS but the max width I think I can use is 8.5,,,might squeeze 9 in to with same back space but doubt it.
Trouble is still trying to fit front wheels.
But we figured out the ATS Gbody spindle would be a viable upgrade as I am using S10/Gbody spindle already and it will give be a better chance to get the steering arms shorter to make them more like an Hbody spindleBut then I am still looking at some offset import tie rods to make it turn better as they have a hook on the end.
OH well gonna have to dig into the books, aint got anything else to do.
So how odd would a 7 in wheel 205/40/17 with big spacer to make it fit, look? I do intend to put bigger Vette brakes on later.
Oh well maybe I can learn to draw hahaha right NOT!

I do know one thing, those 7 5/8 s-10 rears are junk! Too small. Maybe get away with it in that light of a car but its not worth it. If you have any pick your own part yards in your area, go looking for a 9".

I have a 2wd S10, and I put in a Ford 8.8 axle from an explorer. C5 vette wheels (18x9.5) fit perfectly with no spacer. It came with disc brakes, parking brake cables, traction lok, 4.10 gears, 31 spline axles. all for $175. This rearend will not break on you. 3.25" axle tubes.

It is about the same width as the 4wd S10 axle.

Sweet, and a 8.8 is very similiar to a 12 bolt.
