It could be a Z06 that was converted. There was a company doing it to C5s. Personally, don't *******ize a race car with a convertible top. Go get a convertible and make it as close to a race car as you can.

Caravaggio is the company that does the C5 Z06 conversions; they probably do it to C6s too, now that I think about it. As far as I'm concerned, if you cut the top off of your Z06 to make it a convertible, it's no longer a Z06 anyways.

Ok to cut up a Camaro, but not cool to cut up dime a dozen Vette??? Don’t get me wrong I like the ZO6, I just don’t get it. There are a lot of sport cars / race cars / muscle cars that don’t have tops and have pony's under the hood.

This is not a shot at any one, I am just curious. To me that’s like saying oh man you messed up a Camaro by putting a LS motor, mini tubing it and running a 9 inch rear end … that’s not real Camaro.


I like hanging out here because we all like to slice and dice our cars. It makes them unique and one off.

I think what he is trying to say is that one of the selling points of a ZO6 was the added rigidity from the fixed roof, i forget the percentage but i know in the C5 there was an advantage to having a fixed roof. So if you cut off the roof now you just have a Vette with some of the Z06 advantages such as light weight materials.... but it is no longer going to be able to do what a "real" Z06 can do on the track

So instead of adding to the performance, as described in the Camaro scenario, you would be taking away from it in the z06

Ok that is true, I see both sides.

I say cut them all up and have fun. But if it is a real Z06 I am sure its has better performance with light weight materials than a regular Vette convertible and that’s what its all about.

Not at all; I have no problem with owners converting their Z06s into convertibles. However, they are diminishing the performance of the vehicle. The Z06 is not a dime a dozen vette, I'm not sure of total production numbers, but it has to be under or just slightly over 20,000 from '01-'04.

The Z06 is a mass-production factory race car. Everything about the car (within reason) exists to improve performance. Removing some structural rigidity in order to have a convertible top is not conducive to performance and thus the car is no longer a true Z06, in my opinion.

Just for kicks--here are some features of the C5 Z06 that are different than the C5 coupe:

- 405 HP LS6
- Close ratio MN12 (entirely different ratios from the standard T56)
- Race oriented suspension
- Greater structural rigidity
- Lightened (thinner) Windshield and rear glass
- Light weight seat foam
- Light weight Titanium cat-back
- Etc. etc.

Those are just some features off of the top of my head, but as you can see, many efforts were made to create the lightest and most efficient performance car possible. Turning the car into a convertible is converse to these efforts.

I'm just the same, and all of the above is just my personal opinion. If you want to chop the top off of your Z06, go for it. But, you'd be better suited just throwing a set of heads/cam and the Z06 asthetics on a convertible and calling it a day--if you ask me.

Ralph and Wayne go it. Sorry I did not expand on my comment more. The Z06 is a street driven race car. The C5 Z06 bitch slapped the hell out of so many exotics it was not funny. The exotic owners were not happy to loose to a car that only cost 50 something thousand. The C6 Z06 is even more capable and more of a race car. I'm talking track racing too not drag racing. So to me taking a race car and cutting the roof off of it is lame and backwards.

Would you chop the top off an Enzo because you prefer convertible? Same idea to me.

Yes, removing the top on a Z06 reduces its rigidity some, but keep in mind that the C6 was actually designed first as a convertible and that the top doesn't really offer that much rigidity gain. Also, I'd venture to say that less than 1% of those Z06s sold actually see a race track or even get driven to their potential anyways. On the street, you wouldn't feel any loss in rigidity in a C6 vs C6 vert.
