Just joined after meeting ProBell and 68sixspeed at the GM Nationals at Carlisle, PA this past weekend. Thanks guys for the info on your cars. And boy do those guys have some wicked rides....both are awesome!
I have a '70 Camaro, currently street/strip (for last 7 years) that has a 406 SB with AFRs, Lunati solid roller, Super Victor, TH350 and 4k stall.....typical fair that runs 11.20's-30's at 119-120 with 1.56-1.58 60' times, on pump gas thru muffs and all. But I've been wanting to convert it to Pro-Touring for a year or so now, and after seeing Randy's '67 and Dan's '68, I know more of a direction now about where to go and what to do.
Here is another incentive on going to Pro-Touring...
I live near (3 miles) Summit Point Raceway (Summit Point, WV) www.summitpoint-raceway.com/ (http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/) which has a 2 mile, 10 turn roadcourse with a 3000ft straight-a-way (Summit Point Circuit), a smaller Jefferson Circuit for Club meets, and a new Shenandoah Circuit, here is a quick descrip:
"At variable lengths ranging between 1.68 and 2.2 miles, the Shenandoah Circuit is a no-holds-bared technical challenge that will take years to master. Sporting a dimensional replica of Der Nurburgring at 20 deg banking, camber changes (including negative) incorporated with with decreasing radius corners positioned on vertical drops, the Shenandoah Circuit is the odds-on favorite to be the most technical track in the country."
Since I live close now, I'm hoping to try a little roadcourse, as well as longer distance traveling once the Camaro is finished. It's just hard to really take it off the road knowing that it's going to be out of commision for a while. I've debated on sticking the 406 into my Rat Rod '47 truck just for kicks, but then I might have too much fun with that...but that would leave the Camaro's engine bay open to an LS-engine....hmmmmmm..???..??
Well, I hope to learn a lot here. Thanks for having me.
