Running a carb on a 327 with stock gas tank on a 1967 Camaro. Can the tank be painted gloss black and not have problems with vapor lock or anything? I was told not to do it because it would cause problems. I live where it's hot and humid in the summer.

Thanks
Joe

It's not the first time I have heard it. I was talking to my painter and was going to have it done when another guy in the shop started talking about not doing it. I have seen black tanks but never thought about it. This guy was saing the color retains heat and causes problems.

I thought the same thing about it being screwy but though what the heck I'll ask.

I powder coated mine gloss black for my FI power plant. Never had heat problems with my carbed motor, I painted it black and vented it well thru the cap.

until I went stainless, mine was semi-gloss black for 10+ years with no issues.

Yep - painted mine with POR 15. Wasn't rusty - just had the paint and a brush with POR on it so I kept going and painted the tank. Looks real good and wipes down great.

That would make sense if the sun shined underneath the car. Well, keep the car off its roof and you should be A-OK.

flat black would be better. It radiates heat.
