Hi All,
I've been visiting the site for a while trying for inspiration for my Cutlass Supreme. It was an Arizona car and has its original 455 and TH400. I've only added the Magnaflow stainless 2 1/2" exhaust since I got it.
I am considering some Pro-Touring like upgrades but I can't find very many pictures or info on what people have done to their 1970-1972 Cutlass Supremes. Particularly, larger wheels.
Can anybody point me to some Pro-Touring pics of my model of car?
Thanks,
Terry

Welcome! It's not done yet, but I am also building a '72. You can see my progress, or rather my lack of it on my FQuick site: www.FQuick.com/ProTouring442 (http://www.FQuick.com/ProTouring442)

Nice to see another Olds guy on the forum. I have attached a few pics of my 72' Holiday Coupe which is pretty much done. I went more towards the rough "Trans Am" look. My wheels are only 15's but if you lower the car it fills the wheel wells up nicely. Just as a point of interest and believe me most of the guys on this forum are about 300 times more knowledgeable than I am but if you are going to lower your Cutlass make sure you use shortie headers. I put Eibach springs on my car that lowered it about 1.5" and with full length headers I have clearance but speed bumps are out the question! Since the pics my rear has settled and the setup is perfect now. Let me know if I can help with anything but as I said before the other guys on this site are a wealth of information. Good Luck!

I've had my Cutlass Supreme Convertible since July 11, 1982 - we've got an anniversary coming up! I've put about 150,000 miles on it since I've owned it.
About 15 years ago, I installed the H-O Racing springs, rear control arms and rear sway bar, along with a set of KYB's. That made a HUGE improvement in handling, w/o hurting the driving comfort. I've since installed aluminum heads, headers, fiberglass hood and removed the factory a/c stuff - so now I'm in need of "adjusting" the front springs to bring the nose back down. I really like the HO stuff, it has held up very well over the years. I've also installed the same basic parts in a few GTO's for friends, and they've also been happy.
Another good mod is a quicker ration steering box. Mine was sent to Lee Engineering, and they rebuilt it and quickened the ratio considerably.
Added 4-wheel discs from Baer awhile back, too. Put 17" Boze custom wheels on it last year.
I'm hoping to get the car repainted SOON, and will post pics once that is done :-)

Thanks for the tips.
I think putting headers on is lower on my priorites, from what I understand there isn't a big bang for a 455 car.
Upgrading the suspension is higher on my list. Like most people I'm sure, I can only do so much at a time.
My hope is to make it an almost daily driver, I would probably never get it out to the track. When driving in traffic Brake and suspension upgrades would sure come in handy.

Nice Cutlasses!! About 25 years ago I had a 72 Cutlass S that was the same colour combo as B's72's car, it was just a base model 350 2bbl./TH-350 car. Ended up with a 68 4-4-2 long-stroke 400 and TH-400 trans for a while before it was sold.
I'd still like to get another 68 - 72 Cutlass at some point, classy cars. :)
cheers

I've got a 72 Cutlass S and just finished an almost entire suspension upgrade. We're talking Eibach springs, KYB shocks, and SC&C's stage 2 package (upper control arms, upper and lower ball joints, plus lca bushings). It was a tough job for sure, especially since it was my first time doing this work. My only caution with the SC&C kit is that with Eibach springs, it really lowers your car up front and I needed to cut off half a coil in the rear springs so there wasn't too much of a rake in the front.
Anyway, the car handles much much better. I still want to do the quick ration steering box, but can't send it out cuz the car's my daily driver. I still would like even stiffer ride, so next is probably new sway bar(s), and I also have been told the KYBs aren't nearly as good as the bilsteins or edelbrock shocks.
And yes, the lower stance fills the wheel wells, but I'm still thinking about putting some 17" American Racing Hopsters in there eventually. Maybe. Some day. Hopefully.
Great to see all these Cuttys in here though!

Hey guys,
Those are some cool looking Odsmobiles. I like the concept of keeping the nice ride but improving the handling.
We're building a '71 Cutlass S called "S71", it's an original 350 4-speed car that was ordered with all the 442 options except for the 455. We're keeping the look pretty stock with some wheels, suspension, and a turbo upgrade to the original 350.
You can follow the build here (http://v8tvshow.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=27&Itemid=79), and the video blogs here (http://v8tvshow.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=67&Itemid=93).
I'd love to find some 17" or 18" inch versions of the original Super Stock II wheels. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

OESTEK, the rendering of your car is sweet, I can't wait to see the finished product.
RILEYDAWGG, do you have any recent pics of your car with all the work you have done. I'd love to see what the stance looks like.
It's nice to see we have Cutlass S "Band of Brothers" on the forum!!!!!!!

I like the look of the Hopsters. The have a more classic muscle car look in a bigger wheel.
Regarding larger SSII wheels I did find this site.
http://www.streetsmartclassics.com/
They are or have made some larger wheel SS wheels. The S71 project looks great.

Kevin, I watch the show and couldn't have been more excited when I saw you guys pick up that Cutlass this weekend. Dang, I woulda given you my car to work on! Haha. Love the video blogs too. Keep it up.
Yeah, those 17" SSII wheels are sweet. If they were more in line with my budget, I'd definitely get those. On a side note, as much as I think they look great on Chevelles and Camaros, the Torque Thrusts just don't look right on the Cutlass in my opinion. They're also becoming the standard on most muscle cars, so i think it's nice to be a little different.
Bs72, the only camera I have is on my phone and it's not great. But I'll try and snap some pics so you can see the stance.

Good to see other Olds lovers here.
As Terry mentioned check out Gary Willards enlarged Super Stocks for Olds. 16-20" proportional Super Stocks, not craptacular WV/Stockton wrong back spacing wheels.
:enguard: <that is what you will have to do to even get a proper BS/OS from them.
Gary makes some SAHWEET wheels.
If you can't wing that price Hoopsters are indeed the next best thing with proper coloring(for the 'plus' size).

Yes, I've spoken with Gary on the new SSII wheels... we're scheming up a plan for those now. They're very cool.

Billet Vintiques makes a SSI wheel in sizes up to 18 x 9.5. They're not as expensive as the SSII or SSIII billet wheels from Streetsmart Classics, buth they're not cheap either. You can find them at www.newstalgiawheel.com (http://www.newstalgiawheel.com). Mark at SC&C is the man to talk to about suspension modifications. Good to have another Olds on the site. Who knows, maybe we'll someday outnumber all the camaros!
