basically what I want to know is whether or not the magnum engines and LA engines are exactly the same so far as mounting a transmission?
I'm pretty sure they are. the reason I ask is, I have a 71 LA engine and plan on replacing it with a new magnum engine. I'm going to go through the trouble of mounting a GM manual tran to it, so I'm going to have to have some parts machined obviously. if I do this for my LA engine, will everything swap over when I go magnum?

thanks
Dan

danny the la and magnum bellhousing is exactly the same. in fact the only real diffs are the lack of a fuel pump provision on the front of the magnum, the rockers oiled through the lifters and pushrods, the intake mounting bolts being upright , and the paired pedestal mount rockers. so yea throw whatever you want behind the motor, they are the same.
