I been trying to decide between two cars one is the classic 1965 malibu and the other a 1969 impala. Now I know what your thinking IMPALA ???? WTF??? right well i saw a drawing of one in custom rodder and fell in love. Now the problem with that is that no one make any parts for this car ( brakes, drop springs, suspension, etc.) .So I'm leaning towards the 65 malibu but as we all know to get one in bad condition your looking at a least 5k and usally thats a steal if it wont take 10k in body work to get it back nice again. The other problem with the malibu is that you just about have to keep it true to forum with the clones being frowned uponed thes days you have to keep it with bench seat and coloumn shift. Now I want buckets seats with a center console a 6speed trans and a ls2 engine or 4l80e trans w/ paddel shifters. So please help I'm leaning towards the 65 but would love to do the 69 if I can find the parts.

Both excellent choices! 65 Chevelles are great looking cars and probably have a bit more support in the aftermarket department. On the other hand, you could probably find an Imp cheaper than a Chevelle.

You can make both cars cool, it's whether you want to spend the money up front for a car that allows for tons of bolt ons or buy a cheaper car that'll be more of a challenge and require more one-off mods.

yeah that wht I'm thinking but I would like to spend the money on acutally customizing the car not just to say it's a malibu poof there's 6k out of the budget. So I was hoping someone konw somw suspension upgrades for the impala that are pretty much bolt on .

Plus there are tons of early malibus out there ,don't rule out a car cause its a little bit of a challenge.

I like the big cars too (but I like everything!!). I've got a '68 Caprice four door hardtop in stock waiting for some attention if I don't sell it first. Rear brakes shouldn't be any harder than anything with a 12 bolt, and for fronts, to make it easy, you can use the corvette 4 piston calipers from that vintage (my caprice had them stock). I'm sure air ride can set you up with some smooth riding suspension too. Besides...dont guys use the B-body spindles on other cars, so why cant you go the other way and use like a G-body ATS spindle on the B-body?

As for "having" to keep the 65 "true to form"...horse pucky!! It's your car do what you want.

Why? My 65 came with factory buckets and floor shift. Even if it didn't, build the car you want, not the one that the frowny people want.

One thing I forgot to ask was whether it's a Fastback or Notchback Impala.

shoooot.. both?!

well at least you have them in the lineup.. but youll find its pretty hard to focus on both.. my Bonnie is just now getting what it deserves and before i can finish it someone wants to trade a 65 Continental for it!

hahaha the temptations..

DO THE IMP!!! I love those years!! I would do it in a heartbeat. LS@, 4L80 with Paddle shift, 12 bolt 3.73s, airride, Big brakes and 18" wheels.

\I love too many types of cars though.
\\I am a car whore.

Have fun with both.

I'd pick the Impala also. Sweet looking big ride. Needs more exposure!
