I was too busy running around most of the day Saturday. Steve from Twist came in with a mean sounding '69 Camaro. I need some specs please...

What's up Pete. Thanks for reaching out. Let's talk soon. We have decided to bring the car to your Track Day in October. The schedule is tight due to proximity with SEMA, but we can swing it.
Specs on the car follow, but first a picture:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

1969 Camaro--All steel except the hood. Feels like around 3700 lbs.
-21st Century C5 Front Clip.
-TLTRacetek Custom Torque Arm Rear Suspension.
-Roll Cage and subframe connectors.
-Bilstein Shocks and Eibach Springs.
-C5 Vette Brakes with Hydraboost.
-580HP Aluminum 400 18 degree Small Block Chevy with Accel Gen 7 fuel injection. Complete specs can be seen in a Super Chevy article HERE (http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/completebuilds_testing/sucp_0609_chevy_aluminum_engine_block_swap/index.html)
-Hughes 4L80E Transmission with our new MuscleDrive Torque Converter.
-PaddleShifter with TCI Controller and late model Chrysler manumatic floor shifter.
-Fab 9 Rear with 3.50 gears.
-Fikse FM5 wheels 18x13 Rear and 18x9.5 Front (Pic shows 17's. We just put the 18's on tonight.)
-Michelin Pilots.
-Leather/Suede interior with wool carpeting. Sparco front seats/custom rear. Custom leather console, headliner.
-Viper Red.
-Sticks like glue, goes like stink.
After the XV open house, we torture tested the suspension on the Cross Bronx Expressway AND the Bronx River Parkway. For those who are unfamiliar with these roads, they are the urban equivalent of Baja and the surface of the moon, respectively. No failures, no scrapes. Should make a worthy adversary for one an XV Extreme cars. Let's find out. You guys are welcome to come out and experience the paddle shifter and MuscleDrive (http://www.twistmachine.com/products/muscledrive.html) converter first hand. Works insane! I would not use any other converter on your upcoming paddle shifted cars.
We use the car as a new product development mule for Twist. It was the first car to get a manumatic floor shifter, MuscleDrive converter and our new Super Sport paddles. I'm lucky and downright spoiled to have seemingly unlimited access to such an extraordinary, well rounded car. It's owned by Jim Mulvey. Thanks Jimmy

WOW! Thats a lot of hardware on that car, but I'm sure it doesn't come cheap. I really wonder sometimes how well many pro touring style cars really function on the road, meaning, can they survive a few laps without falling apart, make a pass through Manhattan, sit in traffic, have working AC and generally are high performance cars that are reliable.

Build cost for the Red Car is on par with one of your Xtreme cars. There is almost no 69 Camaro left. As for functionality, some of us have gone out of our way to show that pro-touring cars and parts work--much to the dismay of blind journalists and frustrated keyboard jockey know it alls. Power Tour, One Lap, Run Thru The Hills, Bullrun, PHR vehicle tests, Hotchkis Track Days, AirRide Technologies Auto-X--it's a long list. Pro-Touring cars have been making it happen for years.

The overall majority of available parts and systems work very well. We are just finishing up an Air Ride/ATS car. I'm blown away by this car's handling--especially considering that it has a stock clip.

This particular car--the Red Car--has a one off torque arm rear suspension built by TLTRacetek in Water Mill, NY. Last year, pictures of the torque arm and PHB sent some of our resident rocket scientists into seizure. :drive2: The torque arm is short due to the presence of a pre-existing crossmember. Brake hop? Non-existent. The PHB (j-bar) is short, bent, and upside down. Lateral movement--total lateral movement--is best measured with a micrometer. The J-bar was an experiment in packaging. If it didn't work, we would have changed over to a full length PHB. To date, we're not changing it. We will re-evaluate after your track day. The whole system is borne of hot rod ingenuity--not engineering. The point of the Red Car's rear suspension design is that people can lighten up. We're building hot rods--not race cars.

I expect that the XV cars will kick everyone's arses. No company has invested as heavily in engineering and field testing--not DSE--not anyone. But, there is, in my opinion, nothing to prove. Trying is so much fun, though. :headbang:

Steve-

What is the pricing on the MuscleDrive TC? 4L80E w/ PT type of stall? I'm not seeing pricing on your website?

Thanks,
Scott.

Pricing is at the very bottom of the page. Unless you have a double throwdown Twin Turbo engine or some oddball combination, pricing is $697.

Thanks Steve-

That seems like a reasonable price. I saw that pricing 'started' at $697. You mean you're not one of those businesses that just tosses out a teaser 'start' price? :)

That red car is sweet. The real testimony is Mary saying she took a nap on the way to the show. Not many cars like that comfy enough for a snooze on new york highways.

If anyone ever naps in my car then I have an exhaust leak.

How is it she can sleep through 600 barely muffled horsepower, but my snoring is a problem? :getout:

Beautiful car, I really like what you did with the exhaust too. Can you post a pic of the center console? I'm thinking of fabbing my own, and I'm looking for ideas.

The console, like the rest of the car, has a long story that crosses two owners and many shops. I'm pretty sure that the original console was built by Shannon Walters at Interiors by Shannon. It's a nice piece with soft leather, strong hinges and plenty of storage. From there Todd Tureski at TLTRaceetek adapted the manumatic floor shifter from a late model Jeep. We gutted the CAN bus electronics and converted it to old school with a neutral safety swtch and plus/minus manumatic shifting. The shifter is way too tall for the console, so TLTRacetek built a pocket into the top of the trans tunnel to reduce its height. Then we built a trim plate out of a huge chunk of aluminum that bridges the gap between the tall/narrow shifter and the wide console opening. Like I said.....long story. But you end up with the first car that has BOTH a paddle shifter and a manumatic floor shifter.

The exhaust is a one off from TLTRacetek. Sounds pissed off, but it is not in keeping with the rest of the car's personality, so it will be quieted down with larger volume rear exit mufflers. I guess I really need to go out an photograph the whole car as soon as I have a free moment.

that is a killer car, nice work.

just a thought on the "manumatic" floor shifter, have you thought of maybe one from a late model BMW, they are fairly short so you may not have to make a pocket for it to sit in and to access the manumatic feature you pull the shifter to the left when it is in drive and pull back to upshift and push forward to downshift.

Mak Bowler, Bowler transmission has a GM manumatic floor shifter that will work awesome. Tyler just tried one out on a car he is putting a car together at American Touring Specialties. Says it's perfect. The Beemer part would be sweet. We wanted a brand new part--not junkyard. Porsche, Audi, all of the fancy stuff was about a million dollars at the parts counters. Turns out the Jeep part ended up costing plenty on the back end. I don't recomend the Jeep part to anyone. It was just an exercise that we went thru. It looks and feels great, but was a ton of work. Call Bowler. I think it is a new Pontiac G8 shifter.

Nice!

I might have missed this, but is that JimHamptons car? Or did you buy it/ build one like it?

Either way its a beautiful car! We need to get it together with mine for some pictures of the twins!

Yup. That's Jimmy's car. We're gonna shoot it soon. Shooting them together is a great idea.
