i've got a set. the quality is first rate. who sells the steering arms? do you just use stock 69 camaro tie rods with the taller spindle? does ats plan to sell billet aluminum steering arms for the f body like he does the a/g body any time soon?

thanks

Nobody really makes a replacement for the F-body short steering arms. I and others have made this inquiry before.

Your gonna have to buy the right stockers. Dave Pozzi's site has all the info and casting numbers to get the short ones you are looking for and to check what you got on your rig now. I scored mine on ebay but they weren't cheap at $200. They are in perfect shape though and I've seen them go for more so I think I got a deal.

When you say the "right" stockers, am I correct that this implies that there is another type of stock 69 camaro steering arm that will not work with the ATS spindles?

you'd prefer to find the "short" steering arms. but any of the "3" should work. There's a ton of info at David Pozzi's site on the steering arms. Look about 2/3's of the way down on this page. http://www.pozziracing.com/camaro_steering.htm#Steering_linkage

I got lucky and had short arms on my car to start with.

Ah, I see. Through all of my stumbling through the forum I hadn't run across this topic. I'll read up on it and see what I've got. Thanks Steve Looks like the odds of mine being the long ones are pretty good, since its a manual steering car. Oh well....

The long ones will bolt up, but have less than optimal steering geometry and can interfere with the backside of the wheel in some cases. Your best bet all around for performance and compatibility is to find some of the short arms.

I see these sell regularly on ebay for around $150 per pair. Do your homework though and make sure you are bidding on the short ones.

Ditto, be very careful and check the casting numbers. I saw a set a while back that the guy claimed were short "z28", but they had long casting numbers visible in the pictures.

I would start with what you have. Any length will work. Basically the shorter you go the faster the ratio. If you are already planning on changing your box it will be faster anyway. Also, You may be able to find a medium length for less than the short. The price is always high on the short ones because the attach the words Z-28 to it in the auction. Which makes the price high.

I did see a machine shop that did make them for 1st gen F and x body.

I can't find the link but they went for $190 pair with hardware.

Cool, sounds good. I think my budget (or lack thereof) made that same decision for me anyway. Front suspension and brake rebuilds are expensive!!...but fun. I'll put that on the list for round 6 of modifications.

Someone has to make them. I don't see why ATS hasn't done it already since they had to make them for G bodies anyway.

I wouldn't mind paying $190 for them, I want this thing to handle extremely well and not have wheel-to-tie-rod-end clearance.

I asked about them before and the reply was they weren't looking at making them. ATS made the G body steering arms to allow use of their spindle on G-bodies. I think I read somewhere that ATS only makes like $2.00 (you read it right) a set on these. I do see your point though as the initial design of where the arms bolts to the spindle is done, but the rest of the arm would need worked out.
