older bbc to efi conversion

hello all , i have a 1965 396 ci engine, i just purchased a holley projection kit (got a nice deal at a swap meet ) is there anything i need to change on the engine?:hmm: like valves? or anything else ? here are some stats on the engine: 10-1 compression, std bore.( fresh rebuild) oval port heads, cam, crane #133841 (238/248 544/567. i would appreciate any & all input on this conversion thanks G.M.

P.S. this engine also has an edlbrock air gap intake(non egr)

The cam is pretty much perfect on the 114LS
You will probably want to replace the crappy Projection ECM with a FAST or Accel Gen 7 Unit

Or even a megasquirt can run it very nicely. You can set up the Megasquirt to run fuel only and keep your distributor(you might want to have the hei conversion done he stock dist if you want to keep it) looking stock.
And as for tuning and set up the Megasquirt is very easy regardless of what you may here.
I helped a freind do one the other day and we had it wired and loomed in 2 1/2 hours. running without ignition control,,,he is waiting on my DIS conversion.
Also the intake can be drilled for injectors and you can use the TB for just that or do wha t isaw another guy do, he got a swap meet dry NOS and used a plate to feed the NOS and the projection to run the fuel. Lots of options.

i forgot to mention i did the hei conv. i've heard that i would have trouble with the old heads/valves, the old heads were made for leaded fuel.

If you worry use Shell Rotella T 15W40 or Chevron Dello or one of the full synthetics and you wont have problems unless you let it set all the time.
Then you can get CD2 lead substitute but the ash content of these oils is plenty to keep the valves from giving problems AND if you use stainless valves then your problems are even less.
I build lots of older engines and have never had seat problems, just aggressive cams are starting to eat up cast guides so bronze liners are a must.

You never mentioned what type of Projection. There are the really old ones (Analog) and the new Digital. The analog one is only nice in that you don't need a laptop, however all your doing is adjusting the slope or levels of preprogrammed curves. You can imagine how inaccurate that makes your fueling at various points.
