OK. , I work at a GM dealer , but I can't seem to get a direct answer from anyone at GM.
I have a stock GM engine ( pn 10067353 ) that I'm trying to repair a damaged piston in. This is the plain old 240hp 8.5:1 smallblock engine.
Some bonehead dropped a screw down the intake and it got imbedded into one of the pistons. And squeezed the top ring land.
The rest of the engine is fine. ( brand new )
Anyway , the replacement piston ( pn 93422882 ) is about $ 75.00 cost from GM.
So I was trying to buy the piston directly from TRW or Speedpro or Federal Mogul. I just don't know who makes the piston for GM.
Anybody out there got any ideas ?

If you want a cheap cast piston look at Badger pistons or check out ebay.

Thanks Adam , I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest piston around . I just want to match this piston.
I know GM either uses Federal Mogul or TRW / Speedpro to manufacture their pistons.
In other words TRW makes it and casts a GM part # into it.
If I can buy the same piston through Summit or Jegs or NAPA for $10.00 then I wouldn't have to change the other seven pistons.
That saves me time and money.
I'm just trying to patch this engine up so I can use it temporarily while I have a 383 built for my car.

Jeff there is an article on pistons in the July Chevy High Performance, it shows pistons for the ZZ383 and they are speed -pro.

Wrong they dont use those for stock cast or hypertec pistons.
Actually the stockers and the hypertecs are made right here in Indiana. In Bedford.
My brother works for the government on local base and does ND testing and they were having problems with the silicon falling out of suspension and after trying to Xray it that proved moot.
My brother simply hooked them up with a company that uses a computer monitoring set up as they were having problems keeping the molten metal hot enough while it was being funneled to the casting beds. See if the troughs didnt get kept hot they would have silicon fall out of suspension and make big cristals and voids in the pistons.
As for replacing the piston i would use this one http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_744632_-1_10219.
But heck NortherN autoparts has a complete master kit for 69-80 350 for $169.99. I would buy that take out the rings and pistons and either sell or shelf the rest of the parts.
And personally if I ever had to mess with later model engines dump the pistons they have wierd piston rings that are super expensive compares to standard E251s. You might jump up to a molly and it will cost a little more but heck all new pistons and new moly rings would make me a lot happier.
The stock pistons are just too cheap for me in all honesty.
Good luck
