Anyone who is considering dealing with PATC ( Performance Automotive and Transmission Service) out of Bosier City, Louisianna stay far away! I purchased their level three 700R4 last year. When I installed the unit the deficiencies began, the bushing in the tailshaft housing had been mushroomed so badly during installation that the driveshaft yoke would not go in. I pulled the tail housing, changed the bushing which also neccessitated a new seal, then reinstalled and finished the cars assembly. Once the car was finished and ready for use I took a drive to town and back to shake it down. Upon return the speedo cable drive was pouring fluid, so I disassembled and installed a new seal. After another run to town and back the pan gasket was leaking like a sieve. Upon removing the pan the bolt holes were deformed from overtightening in the past, along with the pan rail being warped. I got out my hammer and dolly along with straight edge and repaired the pan so that it would seal. I considered this unbelievable for a fresh transmission that I had paid over $3400 for. When I called them it was as if I were bugging them and I was talked to like an idiot. " we never have any problems like that, you must have messed up the pan taking it off, and there is something odd about your driveshaft we think" and as far as the leaking seals, " you just let it sit around too long before using it". Okay so I had a bad taste in my mouth over it all, but the trans seemed to perform well and the leaks seemed cured. I drove it about 120 miles and parked it in the garage, next day when I backed out there was a spot on the floor. I jacked it up and rolled under. The case was powder coated on my request, they installed a shifter shaft and seal before the coating, I could understand why BUT after powdercoat they didn't remove and change the seal! Talk about a fun job with it in the car try removing a powdercoated in shift shaft seal. After curing all of these leaks I drove it for a while then went to the chassis dyno and the parasitic loss was very disappointing at a 100hp loss through the drive train( should have suspected something). after 500 miles total I went to track day at Road Atlanta and after 100 miles doing full on laps at the track I had no third gear. I called PATC, they said ship it back to them and they would do something within "2" weeks and ship it back. NO THANKS! I removed it and went to a local builder I trust and we tore it down. Upon teardown we found that on assembly they had tore the bottom o-ring on the input shaft while installing the pump, therfore it had inadequate pressure on that circuit and burnt up the 3-4 clutch pac, The "new" planetaries were worn out and it wasn't from the clutch problem, evidently they were marginal when installed.
So from experience yes they used the good parts except for the planetaries, but the assembly was the most PI** poor job I've seen. the guy was either drunk, high, or just plain didn't give a sh*t when he put it together. Then customer service treats you like your just a big pain in the A** to them.
