Im pulling my motor Sunday (today) or next week. Some how my chain went missing. (borrowed never returned)

ONe of those carb base lift plates would be cheaper than buying a length of chain but Im having a hard time trusting 4 5/16 bolts to do this job. Am I wrong to be skered?

I've never heard of one dropping and I've pulled a lot of motors with them, even big blocks. I just wouldn't use cheapo mr-gasket carb studs or cheap/short bolts..

I didn't trust the carb plates when I first saw them either (like 1990)...but after slinging at least 100 engines around with them, they've won my confidence.

Trust it - it'll be fine.

With data:

A 5/16 bolt has between 3900 lbs (grade 2 course thread) to 8700 lbs. (grade 8 fine thread) breaking strength.
Since you're using four of them your engine would have to weigh more than 15000 lbs even using the weakest grade and thread.

You'll be ok.

One thing, just dont do the bolts up sooooo tight you pull the threads from the intake.
