I am getting ready to start on a 66 coupe build and am wondering if anyone has any pics of any coupes with 18,19, or 20" wheels? I am mainly looking for the larger on the rear. I am trying to decide if I want to do 18's in front and 20's in the rear. If you can point me in the direction of any pics I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for any help!

I hope you are planning on a mini tub ,the early cars have small wheel wells.

Yes I am planning on a mini tub. I already have all the parts and am about to start tearing down to get started. Cant wait! But still cant decide on wheel size to go with and all the cars that I have found all have 17's on the rear and look to small to me for the look I am going for. Anyone have pics with larger wheels? Thanks for the help.

It is rare to see a first gen Mustang with 18-inch or larger rims. Here's one that was taken at the recent Year One event in Hotlanta...

I don't know the wheel size and tire profile used on this car, but I think to look is awesome. Perhaps 20's in the back and 18's in front, but it's really hard to tell. The first gen Mustang is a much smaller car than the late 60s Mustangs and Camaros which we often see with the larger rims.

For now, I plan to use 18's front and rear on mine, but I suspect that I'll have to mock-up with used tires while the car is being created.

Very interested here as well. I want to do some WIDE tires on the rear. I love the way GOWEST has his done. Is it just flares or tubbed as well. I cant tell. Also, does anyone know where i can find more info on that fastback with 20's?

Here's my '65 with
225/45/17 up front
245/45/17 in back, I definately could have fit 255/45/17
The wheels are 17" X 8" American Racing CL-205's with 4.75" backspacing.
These pics were right after I installed the new wheels and tires, I need to drop it a little all around.

Bigrig, do you know anything else about that car? Namely the suspension. I am wondering what he did for the rear. That dish looks sick!

Looks perfect. Which center caps are those, I thought the Coy's had a different style, those are pony caps? Look great!

bump

After i built my falcon suspension, i was able to fit a 95 mustang gt wheel and tire with a half inch spacer. 16x7.5 and a 245 tire.

I've found that in general 20" wheels look kinda goofy on early Mustangs.
When you get into wheels that big the weight becomes a serious issue.
The worst place to have weight on any car is in the wheels

Does anyone know who's coupe that is with the flares? I would really like to contact them.

The red coupe with the flares belongs to GoWest, he's in Bangkok, Thailand.

That car has Supra drivetrain and suspension, and he made the steel flares himself.
