Ok, I have not decided on wheels yet but I want to upgrade my brakes.

At the momment I have stock 15 inch rally wheels and need to know if:

1: I use the LS1 rear disc brakes from the 98-02 Camaro on the rear will they clear my 15 inch rally? If not will they clear a 16 inch or 17 inch rally in steel.

2: The same question for the C5 fronts. I know they will not fit behind my 15 inch but will they fit behind a 16 or 17 inch steel rally wheel? I am thinking the "hybrid" set up here for better wheel clearance.

Goal here is hopefully I can go rear disc right now and use my 15 inch wheels, then upgrade to 16 or 17 inch wheels and bigger front brakes in the future. It's a budget thing.

BTW: I have front disc on it now from a 69 Chevelle, basicly stock GM brakes.

Thanks
Joe

1. The LS1 rear brakes will not clear the 15 rally with grinding on the caliper. Not sure if the 16 or 17's will or not.

2. The C5 brakes will not fit the 16 or 17" rallys at all, the problem is that they still use the 15" ralley center and have quite a bit of a drop well on the hoop which won't clear the brakes. The C5 brakes require at least 7/8" clearance from where the wheel mounts to the backside of the wheel, pretty much all the way out to the edge. I have V45's on my el camino and they barely clear the C5 calipers at the spokes and the hoop (caliper fins real close to the hoop).

17's just barely clear on the front. If I had it to over I would have put 18's on it.

How much grinding would have to be done on the caliper for them to fit the 15 in the rear? If I did grind will this affect the caliper at all?

Thanks

I dont know if they will fit the rally wheels on the rear with grinding. I have no experience with rally wheels. I do know that you can run 15" prostars on f-body ls1 rear brakes. 4th gen guys have been doing it forever, i have only heard of one person have his caliper break. if you would like a link to a thread about their integrity i can find it.

i will be running the LS1 rears on my '68 with 15" prostars
