Hmmmm parts problem,,,

Well my newest project has floor rust holes andthey dont even make replacement panels and parts for a Monza.
so I gotta get some sheet metal and start welding.
Now on most of my other projects I was building out of dads garage and now I dont have a garage nor a shade tree.
Turns out I have seen some SERIOUS rusty cars rebuilt so I guess I better get cracking.
Anyway has anyone ever thought of working on a car with NO aftermarket support?
Well this is going to get interesting I guess and now I am setting my sights on this fall for a local car show and I hope to show off a Pro Touring Monza to be proud of.
Now I just gotta get money in line and organize my parts that I have already.
Heck the car i am working on doesnt even have bolt on hinges for the doors so getting doors straight will be a chalenge!
anyway what wierd car than has NO support have you ever thought about fixing up?

yes,this 40 ford. A lot of rust,no real foundation but i think there is enought to build on

....my suggestion is to find a good fabricator to learn from or learn on your own. Metal work and welding classes would be a good starting place.

Before you remove a single piece of metal take pictures and measurments of where the metal should be. Going out to the junk yard with a camera helps too...thats if you can find a car that is in beter shape than yours. good luck

Oh the skills and welding are no problem its just a pain having to fab up panels (lucky since its drivers side floor.).
As for finding another car well it took me 6 yrs to locate another Monza after my Yellow one got totaled thanks to a blown tire.

Not sure what year Monza you're working with, but the Pontiac Sunbird, Buick Skyhawk, and I think Olds Firenza (if they made them that long ago) share the same platform.

yeah i know what all fit the platform trouble is the bad part is similar condition if I find one anywhere.
My plan is to get some sheet metal and weld it together iwth my trusty mig.
I dont figure on this car being restored ever as it was a simple 140 (4cyl) 2+2 Auto.
I had a 5 lug conversion on it from V8Monza.com. Bob gumm has had ball joint adapters so we could use S10/Gbody spindles and the newer ZQ 98 Blazer spindles also fit too.
I am hoping to get some 17 in wheels soon and figure its gonna take adapters to get it done, then I will probably use the ZQ spindles and C5 brakes. Trouble is that funds are lacking. I had hoped to got to the HRPT when they came to Evansville but I havent even got machine work done on my 283 yet let alone buy the 2 pistons or rings I need.
I have plenty of spare parts and such and dont get home too late now so I can try to get some work done on it but I guess some honest people dont get to have a little fun.
Oh well the next trick is to source door seals and such. ANDswap out the rusted out doors for my less rusted doors.
I am hoping to get into the doors and se if i can adapt power windows and locks to this car.
Oh and I am fabbing up my own relining bucket seats too from the stockers and some unknown units I got for $10 swap meet cause they have a hole directly under the headrest and I think my harness will work going through there.

Do one sheetmetal patch at a time. On the door seals, find a silmilar era Gm car and use door seals from that, cut to fit.

How about a 1972 Raod runner ? sounds like it would have support huh? WRONG!

header panels
trunk lid
hood (or patches)

rear panel (behind bumper)


yet... Goodmark makes inner fenders... which is not a common rust spot... way to go guys!

Hey rolling at least you can buy a decent header or a set of motor mounts for your car.
I have to go to a specialized company to get motor mounts and they may not clear my headers!
and trying to find a proper radiator for my car is a bitch. They have a deal setup with Griffin but after the royal run around and crappy service on getting a rad made (outrageously priced too) I dont think Ill ever talk to them again.
But I never really had any heating problems from my Hbodies but some do.
and there are very few companies that make any parts in fiberglass for Monzasanymore and parts are just not around for these.atleast some of the parts on your car can be sourced from other body styles.Or adapted maybe.
