Well, after kicking my wifes azz with almost 20hrs of labor yesterday, my wife and I were graced with little Evan Johnathan. I do not know how my wife handled contractions on the average of 1 every 2 minutes for that long without the aid of pain drugs.(note to self: never ever underestimate her tolarance to pain)

I was right next to the doctor during the birth and if anyone can witness the birth of their child as I witnessed mine DO IT. There is nothing else that can compare to the experience of seeing the progression of your childs birth. Now do not start thiking that I did not support my wife during that phase as my MIL was there for support as well. Then getting to hold him. How does one even come close to verbalizing that feeling? Yesterday was a very good day indeed.

Thanks guys. We just got home from the hospital and all is well. They kept my wife a little longer than usual due to the hard labor. Now I must get the car done by the time he can drive. 16 or so years I guess I should be able to do it.

Billy, you have a PM.

I know exactly what you mean.. we just had our first born, a little boy, 3 months ago and he's the greatest ever... the birth was challenging, never left my wife's side once, but in the end, it was awesome to see him come into the world..

Congrats on the new little one!!!

Congratulations, Brian.

You will never forget those first few moments of that new little life.

We were fortunate to have a rather progressive hospital when our children were born, and I was present in the delivery room when our daughter - now not quite 32 - was born (when we were only about halfway through our classes).

Everything is so remarkable, the new little one moving, breathing, and making little sounds on its own, your wife's expression when she holds the baby in her arms for the very first time.

Did they let you do anything beyond mostly watch and support your wife's progress through it all?

Great news, Brian. Congratulations to you and your wife.

I remember when my first born came into the world 7 years ago there was a moment that really stood out for me. What happened was, my wife had to have an emergency C-section because Jake had the chord wrapped around his neck. I was sitting next to my wife holding her hand when the doctor finally took him out and announced it was a boy. I watched as the nurse immediately took him from the doctor and walked him over to the warming bed to suction out his nasal passages (standard procedure). What I saw next amazed the hell out of me me. As the nurse kept trying to put the suction into his nose, he kept brushing it away with his hand (and with some force I might add). I was totally blown away. I mean the kid was only seconds old, literally seconds old (and still ghost white) and he already had that instinctive reaction to what the nurse was trying to do. To this day I'm still amazed by it.

Again Brian, congrats to you and your wife. And oh...by the way.....
