[SIZE=2]Guys let me just start by saying that the reality show was a great experience and we truly did have a blast. HOWEVER the real Rally is on a whole different level. Now, there are people out there with money and then there are people out there with MONEY.
The majority of these Bullrunners have MONEY. I think I was by far the poorest person there. We showed up with the Charger, gas money and some tools. These guys brought 18-wheelers hauling back-up cars (like and extra Ferrari and or Porsche). It was simply nuts.
One thing I do have to say though is that the people on the rally were some of the NICEST folks I've ever met. There were extremely generous nice people who really had a love of cars regardless of what they drove. The experience as a whole was amazing. Think about it, where else are you going to get the opportunity to run your 39 year old hardware against some the greatest supercars the world has to offer. It was amazing and at times Pete and Myself would just look at eachother in amazement.
We covered just over 2800 miles in one week and I have to say that the Charger ran PERFECT. It didn't burn a drop of anything even after we beat the nuts off it on 3 different race tracks. We ran behind Ferrari's, in front of Lamborghini's in back of Porsche's... it was really pretty nuts. Every stop we came to people just went ga ga over the car. Some people saw it on TV and noticed it right away, others just were amazed that a 39 year old car competed against these brand new supercars. Either way though, the Charger was probably the most popular car on the rally which was a REALLY cool feeling.
Our aquilles heal... fuel. We ran the stock 19 gallon tank which just wasn't enough - but no worries as we'll be back next year with fuel cell new dynamat'ed interior and A/C (cause' it was REALLY hot in Key West). Plus, we'll be doing some more motor work as we really need more power. Otherwise though it was one of the best experience I've ever had.

So, did you get a ticket at the beginning when the cop pulled you aside for doing the burn out? lol (gotta love youtube)
Sounds like you had a great time and the the Charger represented the classic car sect well!

Sweet! That's awesome. I've been following it as much as I could via internet blogs. I would have met up with you in Boston provided I didn't have to go to a wedding in NY that weekend. (It's an easy walk from my apt. to the Intercontinental). Next time...

The babes... Kristine Elezaj (http://www.myspace.com/kristineelezaj) who is a pop singer and Jennifer Nicole who was one of the Flag Girls from the show...
Both are absolute sweethearts and great drivers to boot... impressive right.

Sorry about that Steve... actually I made it through the entire Bullrun ticket free. We got nicked in Rhode Island for doing 70 in a 45 - the officer pulled a bunch of us over. We we're leading, followed by an Ferrari F430, 911 Carrera 4S and a 77' Trans Am... the officer came up to us and said: "Hey are you Mr. Angry?"... "Yes, sir... indeed I am".. and he let us go... SCHWING! We also got a great pic with him
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
As for fuel... I need like a 35 gallon cell or something close as I have now been bit by the rally bug and WILL have this car in the Bullrun next year and possibly even the La Carrera Panamericana (http://www.panamrace.com/). The Charger is old enough and honestly, this is EXACTLY why I have this car... to enjoy the nuts off it and I'll be damned if am I not going to do that. Peter Bergman are I are already talking about how to make the Charger into a full fledge long range rally car.
The Bullrun was a great learning experience, both the show and the Rally, but now we have a pretty good idea of what we need to be competitive so I think the build-up will begin fairly shortly. Plus it will be nice to be able to REALLY roll with some of these big money guys... :usa:

Mr. Angry, I for one am glad that you guys did well in the actual Bullrun rally from Montreal to Miami. I am also glad to hear that you did not have the driveability issues that plagued you on the TV show!
Yep, nothing like a classic Charger to take on the world's best exotic cars!!!

So I assumed that the TV Bullrun finalists got the entry fee waved for the real Bullrun?
You planning on laying out some of those entry fees again next year? Maybe your car is good enough press to get in for free :P

Hey Mr. Angry nice car. I enjoyed watching that car on Bullrun. Where in Rhode Island did they get you? The staties are usually pretty good over here. Its kind of funny that you live in Astoria, my company has a job site that I go to about every month in astoria.

Too F'n cool! Dude I gotta buy you a brew and hear the whole story! I've got the bug and haven't been on a rally (yet) LaCarerra would be amazing! I've talked to a few guys who have done it and they have all said its absolutely incredible. Nice to get a pic of Rawling's car. Can't believe they broke the NY to LA record in 31h 59m!!!!!!!!!! Was that the buzz of the event? Awesome, absolutely awesome.
We had a big dollar guy come in for a shop tour on Friday and was talking about doing the Bullrun in their Brabus S65 Mercedes - with matching high dollar transporter for backup. Offered space in the trailer if we wanted to go. Just need the 17 large for the entry fee.........

Hey Mr. Angry, what's the story behind Richard Rawlings team name CBGM?????
MrAngry
05-25-2007, 06:26 AM
Craig - where are you from? I ask because there were 2 Brabus Cars on the show, one was a CL600 and the other was new Mercedes SUV something or other. As for "CBGM" on the Ferrari, that stands for "Collin's Brothers Gas Monkey" - Dennis Collins owns the Ferrari I believe and Richard Rawlings owns Gas Monkey Garage. They had announced they were going to break the record in Montreal at the start of the Bullrun... then went and did it. It was pretty cool. The Ferrari was a bone stock 550 Maranello with fuel cell and extra spare, that was it. Everyone was sitting around the night before in at the bar at the Ritz Carlton and they were discussing if the record could be broken - Rawlings thought it could be and Jay Rieke bet him 50k that he couldn't do it... so that's how it started.
And yes, to win the rally Rawlings and Team Rieke actually loaded there cars on a DC3 and flew them to Key West from Miami...
For those interested in doing the rally, I have to say that it was really an amazing experience.
I can guarentee you will drive harder and faster that you ever have especially when you wind up in a pack of about 20 cars, the trick is to know when to pull the reigns back as it is VERY easy to get caught up in the "speed" portion of this thing.
Honestly I don't remember the route through RI - we followed a route car that was given to us... big mistake as it took a LONG time. After that we just hung with the atlas and did just fine.

Merely curious.

Believe me, it was pretty wild to be sitting the bar with these guys talking about if the record could be beaten. I'm a Holiday Inn guy, not a Ritz-Carlton guy, so just being there in and of itself was pretty wild. Then to hear these guys seriously disscussing the possibilty of breaking the record was a very interesting experience, then having them doing it was great, because I had just witnessed automotive history from start to finish.
The Charger was absolute rockstar on this trip. The car ran perfect and I mean PERFECT!! Myself and Pete literally smiled and laughed the whole way. Not only did we maintain a speeds in excess of 95mph for 2800 miles, but we took the car to 3 separate road courses, beat the BALLS of it then continued to drive it at 95+ mph for another however many thousands of miles. I have never been so happy to own a car in all my life and can safely say I am really proud to own it.
You really have to break and down and think about it for a minute. There are a lot of BIG money hotrods and exotics out there that people have built by the top builders in the country. This car is NOT one of them. All the tuning on the car was done by Peter Bergman in his and my garage - Pete, as most people know was my co-driver on the rally along with Rich Brannon who drove the Mustang on the TV show. The suspension settings, trans work and any and every other piece of that car was put together by us at either his house or my house.
Our car was a antiquated dinosaur compared to every car on the rally. It was just tuned properly and thoroughly tested. The others car on the rally with the exception of the 77' T/A were no more than 4 years old and held the latest and greatest engineering, tuning, fuel management, etc.. etc... etc...
We ran a 39 year old Dodge with a big block and a big ole' holley on top and it was AWESOME! There we times on the highway when the pack of cars when something like this: Ferrari, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Porsche, Mercedes, DODGE, Porsche, Spyker.
Then we hit the big road course at Moroso Raceway in FLA and came in 17th out of like 55 cars on the race track.. 17th!!
Hell, I still get excited thinking about all the fun we had. Everyone with the big dollar cars can keep em', cause' I'm sticking with my 39 year old sled and am going to continue to beat the balls off it year after year. :bananna2: :bananna2: :bananna2:

Craig - where are you from?
I saw there were two Brabus Merc's on this year's run, but we had a guy come through our shop last Friday.......It was this guy that just took delivery of a Brabus TT V12 Mercedes and was talking about running the 2008 Bullrun. Hope this clears things up
I figured that Gas Monkey was the GM in CBGM, but just thought I'd ask.

Mike is way too modest. I have seen his car and Pete's Dart (if it is the same Pete) in person. Their cars are nasty and well built, well designed and engineered. In fact, I would galdly call on either of them to sort out my rides. What you accomplished is nothing short of outstanding especially considering the competition. It is easy to make factory 500 HP cars handle and run hard, we are all trying to do it with musclecars, that is the trick.
Cannot wait to catch up at XV open house in June.

Mr. Angry, have you ever talked to Richard Ehernberg from Mopar Action Magazine. He built the famous Green Brick, a little green Plymouth Savoy or something that whipped ass on the exotics in One Lap years back. I believe they asked him not to come back, I dunno if it was him or the car?

Ok, I've finally got one of the video's up on youtube. This was taken at a smal roadcourse in Savannah, GA. It's an in car video taken by my buddy Pete. Unfortunately it was really sunny that day and the camera is a little shakey but it's all there. BTW in the video we were chasing a Ferrari F430 and a Lotus Excige S and we were having a total blast.
I should have the other video of us at Moroso Motorsports Park in a day or two.

You guys were by far my favorite to win the TV show. When you guys got booted it literally put me in a bad mood for the rest of the night. :(
But, of course, I can't complain about the TA winning, being I am a die-hard Pontiac guy and all. :)
